    i read the entire thing and i enjoyed it. I really liked the chapter(s) on fetishization, As you say, there is tendency to elevate the surrogate to an "end" itself. Something like "code is law" would be an example of this kind of fetishization in which the "letter" is identified with the spirit...

    I don't think it's a psychological need per se, I just think the same patterns of information consumption are at play. Disaster becomes a spectacle. We would be tweeting and sharing videos while the world was ending.

    one of my favorite examples of this is in open source software. the internet did not change the fundamentals of our economic-political system -- but I think its much easier to imagine different economic systems in which labor is not so alienating because of the success of the model.

    there is no tech solution to people, but hows this, tech can open new political possibilities and ways of social arranging ourselves. the tech is not sufficient sure but it can be what allows us to politically change.

    doubt crypto can ascend past the hegemony of the u.s, but in periphery countries the ability to transact and bank without the state i think weakens political power of those states
