Pointless But It Does My Head In

Hahaha this reminds me of something that happened in Barcelona last summer. A friend of mine who shall remain nameless went out on his tod to find some fags and booze at about 4 in the morning, and being his first visit to Barcelona, he had neither a clue where he was going or how to go about...

Rolling (though slowly, I'd imagine) Gaming Thread

Speaking of RPGs, I started playing through the first Mass Effect so that I can import a character when i get round to playing the sequel (apparently you get a lot more out of it as the choices you made in the first game are reflected in the second when you do an import). A few RPG cliches...

rolling back to the future garage/post-dubstep/alt-funkstep/intelli-2step etc thread

That Oneman interview is the best I've read on your site Blackdown, sometime the other meander a bit too far and get a bit tangential, but that was entertaining and intriguing from start to finish. PS: Every proposed genre name in this topic title is ridiculous. In the worst way possible.

    Juke

Can this thread double as a ghettotech thread? Lazi I know but there's no point in starting a new thread (or reviving an existing thread) for an sub-genre that's all but extinct. Anyway, I found an old DJ Assault mix from maybe 7 or 8 years ago with some ghetto house/juke from DJ Deeon, plenty...

    Todd Terry

Count me in for more Todd Terry. Don't really know much beyond classics like Can You Feel It, feeling that DMS track from the start of Ben UFO's Reprise podcast too.

    More celeb lookalikes

Radovan looks like a cross between Ted and Paulie Walnuts imo. My favourite lookalikes (courtesy of Viz) are: And another which is unfortunately not possible to accurately portray in image form... (uncooked sausage in a shirt)

vinyl purists: you are boring. please stop.

The difference with cd decks though is that you're still controlling the tempo in an analogue fashion even though the media is digital, so unless looping, cueing etc is used the end product will still be very similar to that of a set done on 1210s or whatever. I'm not for or against Ableton...

    Daft Punk

They have quite a similar approach to sample based house/techno, even though the end result can sound different. Got in to a period of listening to Trax On Da Rocks etc on the subway, walking home from work etc. and trying to listen to the individual samples & parts rather than the melodies they...

    Daft Punk

To add to the others, check out DJ Falcon & Les Rhythmes Digitales, they have music that could be desfribed as similar to the Daft Punk sound. Falcon has released on Bangalter's Roulé label, and Les Rhythmes Digitales has remixed the likes of Cassius, and gone on to produce work for Madonna...

    MF Dooooooooooooooooooooooooooom

Aye, he did that at his last Glasgow show, but the first gig at the Sub Club was immense, most of Theodore Unit were there and it was ridiculous. Didn't bother with the comeback so as not to spoil the memories of the first, bloody glad I didn't go.

    Dubstep

Can't agree with the Naked Mario Kart hate, been waiting on that one coming out for ages. Aside from Martyn, one of my Sonar hightlights this year was hearing that brooding bass coming from one of the biggest & best soundsystems I've ever had the pleasure of hearing.
