    The Phenomenal Slavoj Zizek

Oh yes, and what's even better about these types is that they're constantly going on about the evils of moral relativism...and how the only thing that will save us is like Badiou's Ethics. But Badiou's Ethics is basically Situational Ethics 2.0, the idea is there is no universal ethical...

    The Phenomenal Slavoj Zizek

You see, anecdote will never amount to evidence because all it takes is one counter-anecdote to invalidate any other anecdote. My story, if it contradicts yours, invalidates yours. And vice versa. The problem with privileged discourses like philosophy, theory, etc.-- and those who are lucky...

    The Phenomenal Slavoj Zizek

Yeah, I know. That was my point. I was just trying to point out that making sweeping categorical essentialisms based on "gender", whether you think gender and sex are one or not (a lot of Zizekians/Lacanians claim not to, but it's the same message either way) is stupid, precisely because you...

    The Phenomenal Slavoj Zizek

That's bullshit, every word of it. If I had a dime for every time I sat in a room surrounded by my brother and his friends and was forced to listen to them recount every sexual encounter they'd ever had, in gorey detail, so they could all bond over it, I'd be rolling in dimes. Then, if...

    The Phenomenal Slavoj Zizek

I agree with her on most counts, as entertaining as Zizek can be. I think it was American Stranger who put it best on that blog post about the inherent (and perverse) conservatism of structuralism (Lacan, Saussure, and that whole lineage within theory in particular...)

    SIMADology

Sounds good... I have this problem all the time. I can't progress much further than I already have reading theory because I can't afford $100-per-book contemporary stuff and I can't be bothered to wait 4 weeks at a time for a library exchange program to deliver them.

    tiger woods

From what I've seen none of them were as pretty or elegant looking as his wife. But a lot of guys like sleazy, cheap thrills. It's a cottage industry.

The Wire, Arrested Development - Prototypes of a new type of telly?

I think what's really gorgeous about her is her face and complexion with the red hair.

The Wire, Arrested Development - Prototypes of a new type of telly?

There's a scene where she's in her underwear in a hotel room with that old gray-haired guy from the firm, and her ass is just weirdly shaped and not sexy to me. I notice a lot of times that white women, if they have really large breasts, have oddly shaped asses. I'd prefer Sharapova (even with a...

    tiger woods

Oh lord who cares where Tiger Woods sticks it? I don't! And I doubt there's going to be a divorce, if there hasn't been one already. There's no way Tiger doesn't have an ironclad pre-nup. His wife knew what she was getting into and didn't care, I suspect. Celebrity marriages are PR...

The Wire, Arrested Development - Prototypes of a new type of telly?

I found her exceptionally unattractive in the show. Her face is pretty, but she's not attractive... Plus, she has no ass. That's not her fault, I know. Some people probably like that. But I think her body is very strange, I don't actually like it that much. I realize most of the show is an...

The Wire, Arrested Development - Prototypes of a new type of telly?

I couldn't even get through the first season... it had some moments... but the whole subplot about Don Draper being somebody else? Cheeeezy. And again, the wardrobe is pure hollywood-style fantasy with a few real vintage designer pieces mixed in. Not that that matters--it's clearly fooling...

    An evolution revolution

I just got around to reading the article linked in the OP, and boy was that infuriatingly dumb. Epigenetics is not at all inconsistent with evolutionary theory or molecular biology as we've known both for a century. There's nothing revolutionary about it. And environmentally influenced gene...

    An evolution revolution

MD/PhD is 7 years total, sometimes with post-doc work. But that's no longer than med school-- which is 4 years plus two years + residency/intern. I know of someone who got into an MD/PhD program with less than a 3.0...but he had good recommendations from professors.

Good luck! Sounds like you have a lot of options... PE= gym. Srsly. Gym. The state budget is completely screwed, so they'll fire teachers of real subjects, but gym? Can't cut that shit. It's important to force people to throw a ball around three days a week.

    An evolution revolution

You in tri-beta? I had no idea it existed till the other day. Don't know exactly what it entails, but I feel like I probably won't participate much in the activities. The most ridiculous part about med school apps isn't even the ridiculously high GPA req or the MCAT standard scores...it's all...

    An evolution revolution

Oh you definitely don't need P chem... But biochem is a big help if you have time to take it. I'm going to take 3 years and just get the BA. I figure I might as well-- they just asked me to be in the biology honor society. And I want to do some kind of lame research project. Maybe even with...
