    LISTS

Did I do something good? P.S. I don't know any good lists, sorry. Though I think channel 4 did a 'top 50 gaybaiting dancehall anthems' a while back presented by Jimmy Carr.

    No More Gays In Pop

fair point. If you were taking a scrooge-like, Reynoldsian stance you could say that that's a problem afflicting a lot of pop from the last decade...looking for boundaries to transgress but failing to find any, making everything end up kind of tepid. The recent exception to that I can think of...

    No More Gays In Pop

here you go, not all entirely relevant but a good read all the same - http://www3.waterstones.com/wat/images/special/promo/samdaviesarticle.pdf although maybe this bit answers your original question: "There’s no need to whisper rumours on internet forums, start YouTube beefs, or pre-empt...

    No More Gays In Pop

e.g. some idle googling suggests that basement jaxx aren't gay.....

    No More Gays In Pop

yeah, i wouldn't claim to be anything other than a vastly under-informed amateur theorist on this issue but maybe what you're talking about is the total un-tethering of 'camp' from 'gay'? plenty of camp as fuck pop music around (tbh, most of it lately, even when it tries to be macho) but it's...

    Mercury Prize 2010

wow, it really is. sounds like the perfect music for the annual family sojourn to west wales...something innately 'coastal' about it.

    Amy Amy Amy

I dunno, having dabbled in drug use myself I can imagine that hitting it as hard as she did probably has a pretty terrifying dark side which is just waiting to swallow you up...i'd always assumed that's why people continue down that road well beyond the the point of reason (chemical addiction...

can't really see how somebody dying is a solution to their problems.

    Mercury Prize 2010

a dance music album is never gonna get a look in though is it? apart from the token jazz outfit (which draws on the same tiny pool of musicians from a scene even smaller than ours every year), it's all sunday supplement stuff int it. To their credit, I think the 'urban' entry used to be token...

haha I can't be bothered to find the exact JB track that that one seems to be biting on but it's not one with singing/wheedling/sex pestering in it.

yeah I think you're right. Also I guess whereas in this country the perceived dichotomy is between 'authentic, grassroots' music and 'phony late-adopters', in the states everybody's a late adopter when it comes to this stuff.

to be clear, I really like machinedrum's new stuff too. Just thought it was funny to see a dissensian argument staring out at me from the page, and being used as a pro rather than a con.

http://www.littlewhiteearbuds.com/feature/little-white-earbuds-interviews-machinedrum/ about halfway down: "And I feel like this whole [contemporary] bass music scene is essentially IDM resurfacing in a more dance club context. " but he means it as a compliment :D

    what is wobble?

absent minded clicking on related youtube vids seems to suggest that all his other tunes are fairly straight up wobbly half steppers, so I guess that's the connection...maybe he's taking it somewhere fresh though. Hope so.

    what is wobble?

nice, that's got me rushing in my dressing gown it's got that soca bounce to it, that's what makes it. tbh I wouldn't have associated it with aggy dubstep at all if it wasn't ripped from a skream and benga set. Is there other stuff like that around? reminds me of this...which also has a...

    what is wobble?

I know there's a serious discussion going on here but that vid is so LOLworthy. Not that I know much about the field, but that band's relation to interesting, innovative hardcore seems to be more or less identical to Skrillex's relation to your Skreams and Bengas...a sort of diluted, 2D...
