Da Crunked Up Southern Rap thread

The flood-damaged thing is like Norton Records, the rock n roll label - went to a friend's house last week & he had a couple from their flooded east side basement with special sorta commemorative replacement record company limited edition sleeves instead of the wrecked picture sleeves. I've...

The press release hall of shame thread

The Moby picture in this is the single wrongest, creepiest photoshoot of a musician I've ever seen. Does anyone know what the hell he was aiming for here?!

    Most embarrassing sleeve

Back to the classics - apologies if any of these are upthread, a lot of links seem to be down - http://pigroll.com/img/my_lips_are_for_blowing.jpg http://i422.photobucket.com/albums/pp308/jerrytodd1/FaithTones-JesusUseMe.jpg...

    wileys devils mixes

Stop press re DMZ: Is this art from the "Most embarrassing sleeve" thread the reason they haven't budged on reishs? The necessary revamp would show up the uncomfortable proof that taste barriers had been breached the first time round ;-)...

What is the worst thing you've heard this year?

That Thamys one is truly bad. Here's a similar one my girlf put me onto a coupla months back. You probably know it, going by the viewing figures: Here is something my friend was telling me about yesterday that he saw at Womad & made him want to stick needles in his ears. So wrong I almost want...

'what type of music do you like?'

I don't get all the folk here who say "I like a bit of everything" is insincere. I always end up saying that cos its genuinely true (proper child of the Peel programme) - and if you were to say "OK, what about the Birdie Song?" then I'd say "F*** yeah, great novelty record!!". All styles are...

    Noise/techno.

Props. My problem with a lot of the stuff on this thread is that although it is good, it is sometimes hard to see the noise influence on the techno-y stuff & sometimes hard to see the techno-y influence on the noisy stuff - players from one world in the other is not enough. However there are...

Juno Reactor The golden sun of the great east

Trance only sucks since people got told every tune had to build the same ;-) http://www.discogs.com/D-Shake-Yaaah-Techno-Trance/release/244487

Da Crunked Up Southern Rap thread

Thanks for this. Not got any more than my Dirty South 101 from before for you, but thanks! Had a quick whizz through some of them & definitely like a bunch, especially the Tommy Wright tune. Impressed by some of the prices for em on Discogs - bet there's a buncha copies of stuff like this...

    Dubstep

Yeah, I remember raising the Anthill ones starting to be worth money a few years back on here (sadly not the ones I've got though!). Yeah, thought the same about there being a lot of current stuff to choose from. Adonis "No Way Back" is truly perennial though innit - classic bumpy bassline...

    crucial new riddims

2012 (bit behind this year) - Back Way (Bounty "Ride") Don't Let Them (Mungo's Hi Fi) Lost Mind Mercury (Beenie "Dweet Again") Mosquito (soca) Mr Brown (old riddim of course but loadsa new versions last year) MT-41 (Skarra Mucci "Greater Than Great") School Bag Sexxx Tape (Lady Saw "No Sucker")...

    Dubstep

Apologies if this has been covered already - I couldn't find it by way of searching the thread. As with the cutting shapes thread, I'm nowhere near the action & was wondering what ye olde house tunes have been revived regularly in amongst the housier post-dubstep sets in the last few years...

    Tim Westwood-wood-wood-woooood....

I wouldn't say Funkmaster Flex is a perfect DJ technically, but he knocks Westwood (who I think I've only ever heard fade between things) into a cocked hat - Westwood gets people in if he wants mixes, he's purely about tune selection, exclusives, interviews etc.

Much appreciated & yr kind comment gives me an opportunity to ask if you might mind me playing back some of yr own Roots Of... mixes on my internet radio show? No worries if not.

Ha! Well, that's good news :-) Yeah, I read this thread btw. Like the Maceo one - just stumbled across that coincidentally the other day. Best Drumma Boy pieces?!

Da Crunked Up Southern Rap thread

So I post a list that proves this is a total weak spot for me. Everyone else rolls their eyes a bit, hints there's a ton of better stuff out there but then doesn't even say "Here's my favourite one right now". Hmmm, are my suspicions confirmed and secretly every other dirty south record is...

    Tim Westwood-wood-wood-woooood....

His silly accent used to rub me up the wrong way a bit but when he started getting on telly you could tell a bit easier that it was all in good humour. He's been around a long time - you can spot him on really ancient breaking vids from the early eighties before many people over here were into...
