Ooh I'll have to pay more attention to that one; I had also kind of given up on him ever making something as good as, e.g., Owna Lane again Dear CIA, no, I do not know "Benny B" and was completely unaware of his plan to instigate a gang war in Kingston to generate good chunes

That Rampage sounds la little '00s throwback, no? Maybe just the strings and not a bad thing, but interesting to note. I like it: the current scene could use an injection of drama. Not exactly dramatic, but I really like Countree Hype's characteristically fleet production on Intence's "Raid"...

I like the LaaLee/Cristale song but it is definitely global-pop. Telling that Cristale is so much more striking than LaaLee on it (though he's a pretty limited talent so maybe it's not that telling)

I just saw JayBlem has a track called Anxiety Disorder. It's mush-piano but I thought it should be noted on Dissensus for posterity

I really like those Bayka tunes you posted a while back Benny. Skillibeng tries one's patience if you feel obliged to check everything new, but I like Whap and I liked Yo. I agree there is a conservatism to the backlash--reminds me of online american rap fans shitting on Carti. There was an era...

yeah there's a glut of this stuff right now, not really sure what's driving it

Exactly. I'm basically rooting for her while rarely being fully thrilled, though, as you mentioned, Dolly was the best thing I'd hear from her in a while. I was going to post some more tunes for shaka but realized my picks were all at least 5 (!) years old: Loodi, Reverse, Jiggle Jiggle. I...

That is awfully ambitious! But I have to admit Shenseea has risen much higher than I expected back in the Loodi days. And her recent tracks with Megan Thee Stallion and 21 Savage suggest she has the will & connections, though those were the bland tracks I had in mind

@shakahislop if you haven't already, maybe try Shenseea? She's making one of the more direct crossover attempts I've seen in a while. Which means the results can be kind of bland, but there's the sexual content is less dismaying (?) This is on a riddim Benny mentioned earlier:

I do like that Benny, thanks, though ultimately this stuff doesn't thrill me as much as the murder music does. Still, good to have other sounds in the mix. I was a bit skeptical of the "flat" discussion here a while back (Skeng /= dancehall), but then I listened to this new Govana track, which...

Since @WebEschatology mentioned him, I'm curious what you all think of Laa Lee. Vocally he's more trad (that tradition being: 00s dance-oriented dancehall...there's likely a better way of putting that), but some of the riddims are surprising. I quite like Dirt Bounce, which sounds...

That's it exactly Benny. Swanny's appeal for me is how mournful and wragged he sounds, it fits those bleak, funereal (there's always an acoustic guitar or a harp on his best tunes) riddims well. The only other realistic contender for ~decade's best is Popcaan, who I think I have a softer spot...

Does this do anything for the Swanny doubters? I also like this Zimi-produced new Alkaline, the horns could be cheapo nastier though

I have a rule to never listen to a Jamaican song about the singer's mother. The good thing about these pap tunes are you can usually id them within seconds
