    Devo

They had a really strong visual element and were pioneering in their use of video. Their''The Men That Make The Music'' documenty was one of the first music videos you could purchase in the shops.I dont know if that or other any other early footage is available on DVD,but it would make a good...

Wiley in NYC w/ MRK 1 this FRIDAY!!

When Wiley performed at Cargo london for the launch of ''Playtime Is Over'' he only spat bars for a little over 10 minutes. This was in keeping with the comment Logan Sama made on the 'Rolling Grime Thread' about MCs limiting their time on mic with a view to ''Leaving the crowd wanting more''...

    Sonic Triumph of Kubrickian Glam

I was thinking of the tune dad.You know, the beat, the bassline, the riff, the tempo and the feel of the thing. As the vocal hook is completely anemic and forgettable, the result is a flat electropop souffle. It really is in need of a 'Kubrickian Glam''video to lift it. A 'Sonic Triumph' it ain't!

    Sonic Triumph of Kubrickian Glam

You forgot to mention that the song sounds like ''Dont Go'' by Yazoo played through a filter. It might have been acceptable in the 80's....But now? Got anything else to sell? ;) http://www.myspace.com/thekandytangerineman

But not a major record label by the look of things. The BBC chart page lists his label as: 2nv/aatw/mnb and unlike all the other chart entries he has no Website link listed.I wonder why they can't link to his Myspace page?

Bauhaus vs. Burial - was dubstep invented in Northampton?

I remember reading an interview with the band in which they said the bassline from Garry Glitters ''Rock n Roll Part 2'' was used as the starting point for the song.A lot of their early material shows a strong Dub influence, especially their 'B sides'.Many of the early 80's Industrial groups...

    bassline house

I have just been listening to a DJ on Freeze FM {a London pirate station}.He was playing a set that mainly consisted of Funky{heavy on the Todd Edwards},Electro and 2 Step.A listener requested ''Heartbroken'' and he said he would never play ''That record''.As he didn't stop short of playing...

    Nuggets, Pebbles, Boulders.....

That goes some way to explaining why Doo-Wop records fetch such high prices with American collectors. It seems like a lot of the taste making was forged at this time.Oh,to have been at those ten cent bins! http://www.myspace.com/thekandytangerineman

    Nuggets, Pebbles, Boulders.....

The Pebbles LP's were going for about £10 back in the early 80's.I literally starved to collect the first ten volumes. The bootleggers were increasing awareness about these overlooked bands, but also making A LOT of cash out of them. Many of the artists had no idea that their stuff was being...

    Funky/London/UK House

At the moment these sets are a mix of styles:Afro/Tech/Deep and so on.It's more of an attitude than a sound as such.More productions from within the scene itself need to come through before you can really put a handle on what the sound really is.

    Funky/London/UK House

The Afrobeat stuff has been about for a while now,but there is also stuff with the influence of Grime finding it's way in now.A sort of an 'Eski House' sound is emerging.Girl friendly and funky dance music with a hard edge to it. http://www.myspace.com/thekandytangerineman

more fire crew's debut - the best grime album ever?

It stands up pretty well, even though it must have been knocked up quickly to cash in on the success of ''Oi!''.I have a fondness for the LP as introduced me to Dizzee and Wiley. The Dizzee track with the bonkers synth line is called ''Still The Same''.Does anyone know where the sample of...
