    proto dubstep

I can see definite parallels. In time the focus of Dubstep will shift from London/The UK as it gains an international following and producers from every corner of the globe make their mark on it. Away from the direct influence of the Grime scene those parallels will become much more defined...

Seefeel - will I like them?

My only encounter with them was hearing their contribution to the ''Ambient 4 - Isolationism'' comp.I have dug it out again and in keeping with the theme of the LP the track is super sparse and has a kind of stripped down 'proto dubstep' [see seperate thread] feal about it. I wouldnt give it a...

    Grime and the media

Good point. But in the case of Funk it was nothing in mainstream terms untill it morphed into the consumer friendly DISCO.Likewise NEW WAVE became a much bigger thing than PUNK ever was.

I'm happy with that.Just as long as no one calls it UK Hip Hop.That TRULY IS down-market and inferior.

    Grime and the media

The point that I was originally trying to make was if you create an original sound, you might not like the label that subsequently gets slapped on it.Especially if that label originally denoted something down-market and inferior when you are aiming for the stars

In fact Sid DID hate the term as well.He said so in interviews.Adding that he hated all labels.Cook and Jones just wanted Gash and P's.Period!

    Grime and the media

Thats why you ended up with slumming middle class anarchists like Crass, instead of real working class heros like the Sex Pistols who hated the term. http://www.myspace.com/thekandytangerineman

Yes the dark MC led stuff that Garage DJs like the Dream Team didnt want to play.In time the term UK Garage itself became redundant and Urban House became the name of choice.

    Grime and the media

Who in their right mind would want to be labeled Grime, bearing in mind the facts you have laid out? Maybe it is time for a name change? Dubstep was the term originally coined to avoid the UK Garage tag which no one would go near.As the term Grime was coined to describe the music that even the...

    Grime and the media

I'm happy for the artists to call their music what they like. When someone TRYS to make a GRIME tune,a PUNK tune or whatever they are sure to be aiming low and the result will be derivative. But,equally you should file the thing where we all expect to find it.;)...

Closure of the rolling Genre threads.

I find the Grime thread really usefull for keeping up with news of new releases, sets and so on.A lot of this info wouldn't warrant a thread of its own and if the promoter/artist in question is not a poster on this forum,I can't see this stuff getting posted in the Events,Releases and Mixes...

HOUSE- breaking news, gossip, libel, lies etc,

Yes,the very same man.''How Do I Let Go'' is another great tune by him and he has also done some great 'Afro House' stuff {'Children of Afrika' Remix for example}. As for ladies sporting too much makeup/not enough clothing....bring it on just as long as I dont have to go to a northern wine bar...
