heh, yeah that remix is fun, for those who don't know the Cha Cha Slide is a (and still is) popular line dance still done at weddings and parties in the Midwest, mostly with the now middle aged crowd. It's from DJ Casper from Mississippi.

I'm definitely not gonna vouch for T Why, last time I saw him DJ he played a footwork remix of Lenny Kravitz, it was fucking terrible. DJ Royal is ok, I have one of his mixtapes, I can upload it later.

oh also, Bouyon Soca, that is my shit. It comes from Dominica, and is basically soca go go. Super fast carnival bands, often playing hip-hop covers. There is a lot of it on Youtube, but I'll hook up some mp3s too. WCK, MFR and Triple Kay are great bands to check out.

The Gutter Riddim was definitely my favorite soca riddim from last year, I need to think about my fav this year and dig out some more recommendations, I love soca.

Well these guys aren't all setting out to make only "weirdly perverse" music. Hip-hop is usually around 80 so fitting that into a 160 beat is easy due to halftime, and that stuff gets some radio play and is good for parties. R & B the same thing with a bit of pitching it up. Just makes sense...

as far as noise/experimental music vs sound art goes.... It's about the context for me. Sound art is passed off as well, art. The kind of stuff I'm talking about is like 4' 33", Alvin Lucier "I Am Sitting in a Room", a lot of Walter Marchetti stuff, ect. A lot of noise guys do claim their stuff...

I think stuff like sound art, sound installations, and field recordings aren't music, but things like euro improv, electro-acoustic improv, Twin Infinitives, noise, ect are all totally music.

I will also say in terms of the mixes, they are in no way any kind of "best of" the last 25 years, most of the tracks are important tracks, a few maybe less so and just ones I favor. I also leaned more towards the footwork side of things for the 2nd and 3rd parts, so I didn't put big "party"...
