    social networking is killing society

I think I have a facebook IQ of about 25. I can't figure it out. I like it when people post links to articles and websites or youtube videos, but I just can't be bothered to follow the Twitter-like update-a-thon that's become the frontpage. Some people are really good with that aspect, though...

I laffed at this when I read it on another website: The problem with physicists sometimes (hehe, correct me if I'm wrong Mr. Tea), is that because math is all kinds of useful in figuring out how the omniverse (or whatever you want to call it) coheres, they want to rely on it all the time for...

    social networking is killing society

I would argue that all of these things happen offline, too. In almost exactly the same manner and to the same degree, just with a tad more subtlety (in some cases, the last in particular).

    social networking is killing society

I think as a general rule, anything new (especially any new technology) that people are flipping out about and insisting will "ruin" society turns out to be just another thing to thread through that has good and bad sides. But have you seen what these teens are writing? On the social networking...

Narcissists, however, do not understand that words should be for communicating, not just for expressing.

I got a grant writing job (originally in non-profit academic grants) with a philosophy degree. Turned out to be a happy accident. A headhunter asked me "do you have a problem with animal research?" I said: "NOPE!" and the rest is history... Edit: Thanks, MB. Now that there's someone to...

I just got second highest in my class of 140 on a bio exam :D (Neither of us in top two got perfect scores, either.) I'm pretty psyched because this class is difficult. Much more difficult than anything I ever took in a philosophy department. Or any other humanities department, for that...

Check this out: neurochemistry of "love"... Pure and eternal or just a bunch of hydrocarbon based electrochemical impulses that accidentally evolved on a planet in the middle of nowhere in a multiverse nobody created ?

Yes, why don't we try to maintain the "purity" of the race, too, while we're at it? Agree! Better to talk about this stuff.

Sure, people release a couple of chemicals that make them feelgood during/after sex [Edit: come to think of it, I think it might only be after orgasm. So if you're female, and the sex is only so-so-- no feel good chemicals :(]. Though I'd say "bonding" is just a word that we use for that...

Well, I'm sure this is really how you feel about all this, and so I can't question that. But the way you've described things is not how my feelings work. I don't think open relationships require that people be "cold", I think they require that people have a completely different way of feeling...

Lots, there are all kinds of genders, esp if you get into any fetish communities you'll find lots and lots of em... I've been meaning to respond to this, too. I understand that what you're saying here is the sort of default, accepted "moral" position on the matter, but I'd have to disagree, or...

Yup, this is basically the weak link in the whole operation... Some people seem to understand, nod and smile or whatever, and then you realize later that nope, they really didn't understand, at all, but they either thought they did or just didn't care because, well, we'll deal with...

I think it's easier as a female to be able to be honest about being in a relationship and still have sex with other people. Most girls would think a guy is lying about being in an open relationship I would guess. It would probably be easier just not say anything tho, urite. Then ignore the text...

It does-- but it's almost always irrational, isn't it? I wonder about that, if it's just that some people are more jealous than others, or if there's something else going on... Sometimes I think the difference is in how people think about sex itself. Some people think sex itself defines a...

Well, not everyone is so intensely hurt by this, in theory or in practice... I mean, there was a time when I probably would have been jealous if my bf slept with someone else, and vice versa. But things change. You get to know someone better, all sorts of things change, it's hard to explain...
