the D Rose Bulls were very good defensively - it's Thibs, how could they not have been, and I guess you can see pre-injury Rose as a bigger Ja the Jazz always defend but they've never been a young athletic run and gun team, not sure what you're talking about there I don't remember those OKC...

making the play-in accurately shows the Clippers supporting cast by themselves probably are more competent than a third of NBA teams that just provides seriously diminishing returns in the playoffs

I place even less value on regular season success than most people I mean yeah if you're terrible it's one thing, but I don't see like "oh shit the Clippers made the play-in w/o their stars? their other guys are pretty good" it's almost hard not to make the playoffs at this point - look at...

most of those teams 1) can't defend 2) don't have a 1st-team All-Defense rim protector who can also shoot pretty well I agree, half-court offense is a concern. what they need is a really good two-way wing. unfortunately those players are very hard to come by. I do like Bane, but he's not on...

lot of depth, no needle movers. depth, beyond the minimum necessary, doesn't help in the playoffs. I agree that with healthy Kawhi/PG they're legit contenders, what more do you want? sidenote: how is Kawhi still only 30? feels like he's been in the league for 100 years.

one more thing w/Suns is that CP is gonna be 38, and he's already seriously defying the age curve, for small guards especially

gotta disagree about Clips, even healthy. granted Kawhi/PG is a colossal pairing but what do they have outside of that? very little - they defend well, I grant. that wing duo alone makes them contenders but higher than the Ws and Bucks, no way. otoh I'm up on the Grizz - JJJ is like a Gobert...

not to sidetrack, but truly a deeply shameful moment in American history (I'm aware, there are plenty of them) only made worse by two decades of 24, Zero Dark Thirty, etc not only glorifying torture but worse, rewriting history so that it was effective instead of a massive CIA bungle in every...

probably some of column A, Column B with the rightward drift being A, the swallowing pride/revulsion/knowing better to back Cheney et al being B have you/everyone else seen the infamous video of him getting waterboarded? an enduring 00s Iraq-era memory for me obv extreme level of absurdity -...

yr take on the Ws is, unsurprisingly best-case scenario optimistic, but I'd stilll have to call them the strongest contender going into next year, barring trades etc between now and then. I doubt they'll be able to keep everyone - I agree w/Linebaugh, good as he's been Poole is probably most...

I'd like to see them and the Giannis Bucks go at it, both teams in full health as good as Cs are defensively, they just can't hang offensively, and yeah are young and sloppy and I don't know how Ws are going to slow down a motivated Giannis, that's a tall order even for Draymond Green I'm...

also I was thinking about it and if this Ws core gets 1 more title then I'd have to firmly move them into 3rd place after 60s Cs and MJ Bulls rn for me places 3-5 are still a murky tier of Ws, Showtime, and Duncan Spurs in some order Steph is 35 next year, the other two are a couple years...

and Bellingcat is definitely an unofficial mouthpiece for Western intelligence agencies - aren't there multiple govt officials on record saying essentially as much? doesn't mean they don't also do good work, or that they're in lockstep w/their intelligence sources but one should be aware, take...

Hitchens at least - I think - believed more or less what he said, i.e. had an experienced a genuine ideological shift to some degree, tho I'm sure he wasn't averse to the $ etc. which I don't say to defend him, but to compare him to Greenwald, who I don't think has experienced any ideological...
