And some more good news...

Google is planning to move its British users’ accounts out of the control of European Union privacy regulators, placing them under U.S. jurisdiction instead, sources said.
The shift, prompted by Britain’s exit from the EU, will leave the sensitive personal information of tens of millions with less protection and within easier reach of British law enforcement.
Ireland, where Google and other U.S. tech companies have their European headquarters, is staying in the EU, which has one of the world’s most aggressive data protection rules, the General Data Protection Regulation.
Google has decided to move its British users out of Irish jurisdiction because it is unclear whether Britain will follow GDPR or adopt other rules that could affect the handling of user data, the people said.
If British Google users have their data kept in Ireland, it would be more difficult for British authorities to recover it in criminal investigations.
The recent Cloud Act in the United States, however, is expected to make it easier for British authorities to obtain data from U.S. companies. Britain and the United States are also on track to negotiate a broader trade agreement.
Beyond that, the United States has among the weakest privacy protections of any major economy, with no broad law despite years of advocacy by consumer protection groups.

So now they are saying that Farm Subsidies will be cancelled in flat contradiction of the Brexit campaign claim that they would not be cancelled. A lot of pissed-off Brexit voting farmers right now who - not to open old debates - obviously totally knew exactly what they were voting for and whom I wouldn't want to patronise by suggesting otherwise.

“Some farmers may decide to stop farming altogether and use the payment to contribute to their retirement or move to another sector,” said Defra.
Basically admitting that their decision is gonna make small farms unsustainable.
I get that there is less money for everyone after Brexit and someone is gonna get fucked but it seems a particularly vicious betrayal to lump the first bit on a group that broadly supported them.

Well I do hear that. But

a) Some of them didn't vote for it
b) They were warned - but also they were promised the opposite and so they had to choose who to believe. Not always easy.

My, in fact dunno what, Mum's cousin maybe, has a farm in Wales, it's fucking difficult already I know that. Not sure how he voted though.

Whatever, fuck the farmers... the main point is that every time a Brexit campaign claim is switched by 180 degrees like this then it's another nail in the coffin of the idea that Brexit voters all knew exactly what they were voting for and what Brexit meant. I mean to me that claim is dead but some stick to it for some reason.

Yeah Mum's cousin is my first cousin once removed... but I'm not totally sure he's her cousin is the point... some kind of not particularly close relative (pretty sure he's no kind of aunt though).

There is 'to and fro' on both sides, and you can tell that many in the EU are not terribly keen on enabling Boris. But basically the Torys have re-agitated the hardcore 'let's go WTO' Brexiteers again now, and created expectations - this doesn't feel like an expedient thing to do. Unless you're planning to really take things to a batshit place. I mean I'm not terribly keen on the 'who's going to make our sandwiches?' crowd, but one does wonder if they're not trying to deliberately destabilise the economy at this point.

Something I've noticed from twitter: a fair few people think the EU is "far right" (comparisons to Nazi Germany, etc) and that Brexit is "left-wing". Why a notably right-wing Tory government would be pursuing a left-wing policy, I don't know. Possibly these are the same people who blame Labour for a decade of austerity.

No idea how representative these people are of your typical Leave voter, though.

Quite a lot of people on Twitter play the 'Hitler was a socialist' card as well.

Haha, yeah, that's a good one. Very popular among Americans.

It's kind of funny that there were some socialist Nazis at one point - before Hitler had them all killed.
