Bookshelves

Got to move to a new house soon and it appears present occupants do not own a single book. So, we'll need to put some shelves in. Can anyone recommend a carpenter who'll make a good job of this, or where we can get a decent DIY lot from?

I looked at Ikea and all of those and ended up going to B&Q and just getting some white MDF and aluminium shelf brackets, just cos it was a third of the price. They look quite good if you like the cheap industrial look lol

Dissenus just quieried my speling of aluminium. Bastards.

That's gone too far. There are many things that should be grinned and born (?), but not this. I demand war be declared on the United States immediately.

HMGovt - have you noticed many piles of cinders and Nazi regalia around the new place?

There is one of those bins with a chimney in the garden. I'll stir the ashes, have a look for any entarteten Bücher next time I'm there.

I don't think the missus will settle for white mdf. I was hoping for a list of phone numbers for ancient, perhaps near-blind, artisan bookcase makers with hands like gnarled-yet-proud oak trees.

Beast of Burden
My mum used to do this thing...she'd go to the docks and get plain planks of wood, then go to a brick yard and buy a bunch of bricks. Hey presto, ready made bookshelves. They worked pretty well.

Works for me too. But I don't think it will pass muster in the new house, plus there'll be an 18-month-old around, they don't mix well with loose bricks.

Got me thinking though, maybe some Thames driftwood could be involved.
