I hardly ever watch telly but I binge watched 1st season of The Boys cos we've got Amazon Prime - most entertaining thing I've seen in ages.

I just watched this western thing called The English with whats-her-name Blunt and a load of British actors - Rafe Spall, Ciaran Hinds, Toby Jones etc - running around the wild west. Blunt and a guy I never seen before called Chaske Spencer are the stars as a maybe out of her depth English aristocrat seeking revenge and a Pawnee scout who has just left the US army, thrown together predictably enough they make common cause and it develops slowly but not too slowly, jumping around in time to build a fairly satisfying story with characters not always developing as you might expect in front of spectacular scenery and with slightly cloying country tunes popping up just a little too frequently. Refreshingly it told its tale in six episodes with no obvious desperation to get a second series, no cliff-hangers etc it's not gonna change your life but I enjoyed it well enough.

The trailer's dropped for Joe Wright's Mussolini series. I was intrigued when I heard about it, but this has actually put me off. I don't like the look and I don't like the flashy style: Mussolini winking at the camera, blaring modern music. It can work, but Sofia Coppola was doing this stuff almost 20 years ago with Marie Antoinette and I've seen enough of it between that, Sorrentino's Young Pope and whatever else. It's played out.

This one's better.
