After several months of successful but irregular nights at the Alibi, Wifey begins a monthly residency at Dalston's best club.
FUNKYSTEPZ
Choosing a name almost synonymous with UK funky itself might seem bold, but Funkystepz are behind several of the genre's club and radio staples this year. Among them are their remix of Rihanna’s ‘Rudeboy’ and the equally overwhelming 'For U', built around an original R&B-inflected vocal from Lily Mackenzie. At the same time they can do raw instrumentals better than almost anyone, prime examples being ‘Hurricane’ and ‘Fuller’, due out on Hyperdub in the new year. After wild reports of the damage done at Plan B in Brixton recently (for our friends at Local Action and Days Like That) we’re thrilled to be hosting a guaranteed sweat-soaking from one of London’s hardest-skanking crews.
DJ PANTHA
From bassline's latest hotbed of talent in and around Birmingham, for our money DJ Pantha is making the most exhilarating new music available. He’s also arguably the genre's most original producer for a couple of years, with a distinctive sound featuring deranged, eye-popping drum patterns and a unique arsenal of gnarled basslines and effects. Established bassline figurehead and 1Xtra presenter DJ Q has just given Pantha’s constantly in-demand ‘Candy Shop’ a deserved release, but other than that, expect dubs all the way.
LIXO
Backing up our headliners we have Lixo, resident behind the GetMe nights and always an impressive DJ in his own right. We’ve no idea what he’ll be packing in the bag – it could include anything from bashment to Space Dimension Controller, via the likes of Deadboy and Girl Unit. If you’re unfamiliar, investigate his mixtapes at http://www.thisisgetme.com/.
MC SHANTIE
On hosting duties, we’re once again delighted to have our favourite Live FM and Rinse FM MC. Fans of DJ Petchy or Marcus Nasty will know about his irrepressible style and the personality with which he pulls it off. Aside from generally changing up the dance into top gear, watch out for his appearance with a special guest DJ.
MIXTAPE
We're also celebrating the release of our third mixtape, this time from Hardhouse Banton. Visit http://wifey-ldn.com to listen and download.
