no vinyl but DJing at it finest :D

Ohmidayz this is one of the sickest things I've seen! Jeeezus.

He just makes you realise A) how inadequate you (I) are (am) as a DJ. B) How inadequate most DJs are C) just how artful and special DJing can be.

You're right about him playing old tunes as if they're new, it's not just doing a clever mix between an old garage tune and a new Funky tune whatever, not just re-conceptualizing them, but playing them as if they're instruments, using their familiarity to build hype, but otherwise just using them as like, raw rhythmic material.

In other words - gosh!

EZ is an institution.

Pure Garage CDs pretty much got me into music when I was a kid. Cool that they chose Hatcha to do the dubstep version probably the nearest equivalent.

Interesting piece

http://djworx.com/the-post-technics-era/

Looking over a 5 year period, we can paint some broad strokes about trends. Despite the demise of the mighty 1200s, nobody has really picked up the slack. Sales figures for other brands look pretty consistent, but still a fraction of their heyday. From an all brand turntable perspective, over a 5 year period we’re talking about dropping to an estimated 3K units globally per year, and that includes all the USB types as well. So post-October 2010 (the alleged end of days), sales have dropped overall, but people are still buying turntables, just not in the quantities they used to.

Media players continue to sell well – again, not quite in the numbers that the original CDJs did, but good enough for companies to keep making them. I see this as users having dropped quite a lot of cash on the original ones, and not having a compelling reason to upgrade. Indeed, I’d say many are not even looking to upgrade their OG CDJs and are migrating to controllers.

And this is where the real eye opener is – sales figures for controllers are insane. Over a 5 year period (probably from the start of the Vestax VCI-100), sales have exploded by 500%, and currently outsell all other major product groups put together. It would be indiscreet of me to highlight brands and actual sales numbers, but it goes without saying that controllers are where its at these days.

went to some of the MVE shops in notting hill yesterday. looks like the soul and dance one is moving and downsizing quite a bit. their dvd shop has shut too and become part of the book one. hoping they dont all dissappear.

pyar vinyl skillls from the big boys rossi b and luca from back in day. 3.30 in, snm innit...

always had it in mind that this was filmed at mixing records on surrey street market (what used to be big apple...) but i could well be wrong.

sick still. saw them DJ at a planet mu thing last year or something. CDJs and played a bit of a jump up dubstep thing. not that great unfortunately. the scratching was still on point but not sure that it worked so well scratching coki's gangster for life and stuff.

still. scratching in the nuum. sick. up there with the rushiest things a DJ can do i say. remarc was always good for it, and dj hype, and more recently the man like dj rum (now djrum?) from yardcore i've seen do some great stuff. must be others...
