Whitechapel Walk-In Centre

Went down there yesterday (as advised by the NHS website) cos my girlfriend needed some stitches out and the centre was closed, permanently as far as I can tell. There is a new A&E and Urgent Care centre but (after we'd queued up and been sent through we found out that) they don't fulfill the same function and they couldn't remove the stitches.
So... is that it for Whitechapel Walk-In Centre? Just disappeared with no announcement. Over the years it's been a vital resource - when I moved to London and had no gp for instance and I bet it's been the same for loads of other people. Is it because of the cuts or some kind of supposed improvement or what?
I'm amazed that such a big part of such an important hospital can just vanish (without the NHS website knowing apparently) and not even be replaced.

Saw this on FB the other day...

Yeah, it's pretty shocking, but it was hardly a centre of clinical excellence as it was. Anna got 'treated' there a year ago or so by a doctor who was extremely rude and unprofessional. Though getting some staff in there who weren't dicks would perhaps have been a better solution than just shutting it down.

If you were given misinformation then you should make a formal complaint, that's totally unacceptable.

Was it Whitechapel where Josie went when she'd hurt herself somehow and found that she was pretty much the only person there who hadn't been injured in a fight?

Er, dunno, but yesterday the person who was in front of us in the queue had come to see someone who had collapsed in the hospital when visiting his son who had been injured in a fight.
But the service there was ok I thought - it was one of the few places where you could just go if you were ill but weren't quite injured enough for a&e. The main people who need it are people who haven't got a gp so I guess they are mainly those who have just moved to London (and often those who don't speak English) or have another reason for not registering. Basically the poor and disadvantaged I'd imagine and now they are just a bit more disadvantaged.
