That axis had no staying power. Which is why dubstep has long ran it's course and has barely any presence today. Some of em jumped (bandwagoned) right onto the trendy techno side of things and maybe stayed there? No idea. All v on brand for the first genre raised on the internet. Anyway I lolled because he was a funny guy to pick. Dunno if he ever got much of a mention on here for eg

Came and went. Product of the environment. Early dubstep years were cool when it was an umbrella for all sorts of stuff but it evolved so fast down to the lowest common denominator, leading us to fkn EDM of all things

Have a feeling in a decade or two's time we'll look back at that whole period and mark it as the time when dance music died. At least for a long moment.
Hopefully the Beynaissance will usher in a new era though. We'll all be dressed inhazmat one piece suits, sipping flutes of artificial champers

I actually like a fair amount of the Bristol sound, stuff on Idle Hands, Punch Drunk, Livity Sound, Dnuos Ytivil. BTW, just read the Idle Hands store is closing.
The issue (for me, anyway) wasn't a classist thing, it was that a lot of the post-dubstep music just got boring to listen to.

oh god no. Only when it totally dies can we reinvent something new. I hope business techno gets even more moronic, tech house becomes just a 808 kickdrum, and neo-jungle just becomes an amen on loop. that's when we can bring in the hooligan anatolian plunderphonics.

lol I remember someone getting furious that someone had pressed up an mp3 rip of dem a talk because the test presses/dubplates were stupidly rare and at £40+. Thought it was pretty lame at the time, just an endless rehashing of loefah's mud. and I've been more sympathetic to dubstep than a lot of people on this forum but the deeper scene contrived to turn themselves into an irrelevance. Really the saving grace of dubstep was when it stopped being a UK sound and got reappropriated by mad geezers in Croatia, Turkey or whatever.
