I like The Master and don't really care about the others.

I thought this post was about The GRANDMASTER but no, all about some nothing bullshit film

THE GANDMASTER - opening scene ( Wong Kar Wai )

IP MAN is the teacher of my teacher's teacher's teacher

and Wong Kar Wai is perhaps the greatest director of cinema EVER

Wong Kar Wai made the best use EVER of West Coast Harmony EVER

Chungking Express - California Dreaming

and don't even get me started on ASHES OF TIME, the greatest nonlinear narrative based on on a Jin Yong novel, the greatest modern Chinese author, etc

Great film. My favorite of Fellini's of what I've seen, and I might argue his best.

I wasn't keen, but i saw it a long time ago. If you read the article, it talks about a lot of other film-related stuff surrounding him too, like him being a fan of Rome, Open City and having a good relationship with Scorsese.

Ferrara met him a while back as well, but that isn't mentioned.

@version i finally saw the PTA trailer before sinners last night….. maybe i should finally read Vineland, but it didn’t elicit much outside of me…. Leo/pta i know I’ll prob like it…. This is his 2nd straight film as his own cinematographer….

I remember liking Rome, Open City too, but aside from that and Bicycle Thieves, never really got into italian neorealism. Good thing craner is no longer with us, otherwise I'd be in for an earful.

the new alex garland one about iraq is quite good, the first time i've seen someone try to portray a firefight in that war accurately (and that's literally all the film is, it's just that)

i saw baby invasion, cool coz he's trying to do something no-one has done before but it's very boring and pretty ugly

the budgets have clearly seeped out of everything. am finding that the stuff in cinemas is quite interesting though, even if it's not particularly good. it's like the film people are all unmoored. trying to work out what to do and how to crack the code, what the possibilities are at the moment. there's a certain exploration to the new films i'm seeing, from the indie ones to the more mainstream ones
