That doesn't make sense. You have to explain why Trump-as-authoritarian neither took advantage of Covid nor is getting stuck in to wars.

He didn't know what to do about covid, claimed he was controlling it, attacked governors who did... just random flailing.

He's authoritarian cos he's announced that only he and the ag say what the law is, has fired everyone supposed to be part of the checks and balances and now threatens protest (having already issued an EO to say that he decides what constitutes illegality).

If he was too dumb to take his opportunity that doesn't prove anything.

He's not exactly maximising his authoritarian opportunities. Also, you don't get it on Covid: an authoritarian would have ignored Covid and used the legal opportunities to establish an authoritarian regime. I'm not talking about his disease management.
