I felt like America, on my most recent visit, was basically here but a bigger land mass. More spread.
Whereas before the contrast between here and there was more temporal: "10 years ahead".
Now, to me, it's not like you can say something like America is ahead. It's something else.

It may just be down to a particular slant in the reporting, but I'm starting to get the impression he doesn't actually know much of what's going on. Maybe he's getting all the information and just refuses to accept anything he doesn't like, but it may also be that he's surrounded himself with so many yes-men he's more or less out of the loop.

Isn't this what happens to all (actual or would-be) dictators? Nobody wants to tell the big boss that their plans are unworkable, or that policies already put in place are failing, for fear of losing their job, or worse.

Or even that policies are unpopular with the public. Trump was claiming the other day to have an approval rating in the 70s, when even Fox has aired a survey showing him to have net negative ratings on every policy area, but it's possible he really believes that, I suppose.
