Arzate: When they announced Prince, and you see the symbol light up and all of that, the crowd. It’s all dark. The crowd goes nuts. And I’m like, “Are these white people really gonna be into Prince?”

Berry: He comes out on the stage and he has this do-rag wrapped around his head. And I’m like, “Oh, my God! He’s covered up my hair.”

Hayes: You just have to realize that the floor is this slippery tile. It looks dope but when it got wet it was like standing on glass.

McClean: Obviously the stage was really slippery and there was no way for us to control that environment except for putting little grips on the bottom of our shoes. We had planned to do that anyway, because we’re always dancing in knee boots, so we always had those on hand.

watching all the other musicians react is magic. especially love petty leaning in machine gun style to egg him on to take it further. then the slow shake of his head as if to say 'far out, man'


and the superbowl vid is lush. damn

He's just a better all rounder, i don't really understand the rock/pop thing. Prince is more on an even keel, never quite reached the heights of mj, but I'm glad he didn't in a way cos it obviously isn't very good for you. Although I know prince didn't go out very well as well

Something I've thought about in the past is that prince gave expression to his deep dark sexual desires, got it all out there, whereas mj never did, or never could, and that's why he was so fucked up.

Well, it's the rockist thing of he wrote his own songs, he was a multi-instrumentalist genius, he expressed his own personality and moods in his music, he did concept albums....

Whereas MJ is a sort of product, an artificial persona (with an artificial nose), didn't let any of the darkness in his private life manifest in his music, wrote songs but isn't known as a songwriter, was known primarily for singing and dancing...

Ah right, got you. Yeah I suppose that is what I'm saying. I would never say mj is not authentic tho, but yeah in terms of music instruments, prince played a lot more and so there's more to his sound. But Michaels understanding was also phenomenal, just different. And I prefer prince cos I appreciate the side of things he was better at, especially now as an older person. I think I preferred mj til I was about 11.

Partly. I had actually seen that clip before though. It's more of a cumulative thing, reading the thread over the last couple of weeks or so and listening to more and more of him.

Given the Psychedelic Turn on dissensus it has to be prince.

Prince's music is full of trippy what the fuck moments even if he didn't take drugs apart from loads of prescription painkillers

mj is pop as tooled as an efficient joy machine but prince is the flotsam and jetsam of one person's subconscious

What's good and bad about this Vs format is it makes you take a side and you can't help but get slightly rabid about it.

I'm going to start defending him for dangling his baby out of the window soon.

The thread is bending me into Uri gellar.
