God in the pavements

in Taiwan the road is the pavement, the pavement is the road
on my previous visit i asked "what are those red stains?" and I was introduced to the world of Night Owl Cafes staffed by Betel Nut Babes
I failed to take photos due to some bad planning, but a couple of weeks ago on my last day on my latest visit to Taiwan I remembered to take some snapshots of Taiwanese betel nut culture
I took numerous photos but this is maybe the best betel nut splat
just as I was attempting to capture this triumph of Taiwanese drug abuse on my phone, a little old lady dashed out with a mop and bucket and started to frantically scrub away at the pavement, to no avail, as a couple of hours later I passed the same spot and the signs of betel nut abuse were still strong
edit: this was outside an "upmarket" coffee shop where I had an interesting iced lemon coffee concoction

there's history between Taiwan and Japan, but Taiwan tends towards chaos and Japan towards order
and in the pavements of Tokyo you'll find signs of supernatural spirits, the Yōkai
this was built in to the pavement of a street named after the Kappa yokai which was adorned with images of the lovable aquatic creature:
and there was also a shrine dedicated to the Kappa along this street but there was a mother and daughter paying their respects so I refrained from taking photographs, but I should maybe mention that I own a DVD of Kappa pr0n? it's an arthouse film, honest

Kappa is not that lovable, we probably have one in our river,
apparently they are always on the lookout for arses to probe

how can you hate on this little fellow?
sure, they get a bad press from some quarters, but there's good people and bad people, it can be the same with Yōkai - for every kappa that drowned someone there's a counter story of a kappa saving a kid from drowning, etc.,
and the "Underwater Love" film I mentioned above explains about the probing, they're just looking for the "magic anal pearl" that brings health and happiness...
