The guitar on this :crylarf:
It is gorgeous though
but then Maxinquaye...
the whole 'having sex with arabella who didn't get into cambridge' set where i went were into puffas, timberlands, d'n'b and 2step
'maxinquaye' was too 'one of mummy's 3 coffeetable CDs', lol, and too darn obvious (cos it was bristol)
i hear tricky thru indie, indeed, and postpunk and indus, as well as soul and whatnot, meanwhile all that watery dullard digger's instru hiphop like dj shadow has completely dropped away
there's dread in tricky, oodles of it, not a smidgen in massive/portishead, the basic ingredients may be the same, the feels v diff
I am actually interested in checking out more tricky cos I've never bothered.
There used to be a documentary on YouTube about Goldie called Saturn returnz. Dunno what I'd make of it now in my cynical early middle age but at the time I watched it I found it incredibly inspirational. His passion for music and both hiphop and rave culture, which had helped propel him out of a Wolverhampton housing estate to Miami and then the world... Just going at music full throttle.
Obviously many ppl associate him with The Face and Bjork and jungle selling out and going jazzy - but that isn't what he meant to me, nor was Metalheadz.
anyway dr. octagon lyrically shits over Tricky. proper creepy darkside! but you don't like hip hop...
you literally couldn't get more having sex with Jessica from Somerset in first year of university than Tricky. his whole career was literally built on appealing to that demographic. dj shadow probably had quite a few hip hop fans but Tricky didn't.
