i went to see the berlin state ballet last week. they performed three choreographies by william forsythe, of whom i had never heard before. each of the performances lasted about twenty minutes.

the first part was a bit minimal but quite dark and dystopian as well. the second part was very hectic, lots and lots and lots of dancers jumping over tables, sliding under tables, slamming against tables. all the while this abstract and industrial cyber music was thundering through the speakers.

the last part was in total contrast of the first two parts, it was very light and tender, like the way a cow hops and dances onto the meadow land when he's first allowed to leave the barn after winter, or the way a young deer hops around on their frail legs. it was very tender and sweet. the music was composed by james blake, and was actually real good and such a good match.

i'll be on the lookout for more william forsythe and can highly recommend checking out his choreographies
