Venues with poor sound

Went to see KRS One @ Concorde 2 Brighton few years ago. Sound was awful. Should have asked for a refund

supposedly the acoustics at the Hacienda were terrible, all steel and concrete.

ironically so such a shithole, CBGB had one of the best sound systems I've ever heard in a rock club.

i was playin at the scala once and we were seperated from the main room and sound system by a curtain. crap

went to see something solo violin at the royal academy of music and there was someone audibly practicing bassoon behind the stage. crap

was playing at a squat in commercial road once and a PA speaker fell over onto my laptop, different kind of crap

I remember a Laurie Anderson gig at the Barbican - her Moby Dick inspired piece - the acoustics were awful, really surprisingly bad.

I've always found the big state-of-the-art rigs at huge outdoor festivals to be weird. almost sounds like the band isn't actually playing live, you don't seem to get the same sloppy spontaneity and overlap of instruments that you do in a club or smaller venue. maybe it's also because the audio is so distant and removed from the visual when you're viewing the stage from far off in the crowd, or watching it on the Jumbotron monitors. dislocation.
