and he does a great debunk of the whole off-grid fetish which got me to think about all the BAD things living off-grid represents - the pretense that we can live in isolation from one another (would imagine all these billionaires who buy houses in new zealand would survive for half an hour - and preppers would probably fare just as well) and the idea that it's even a desirable thing.
i like nature... a lot in fact... but happy to be a member of the human race. happy, for example, that there's some clever people who can grow vegetables in scale so efficiently (this need to do EVERYTHING yourself is pretty inefficient and debilitating i reckon)
city living is basically very ecologically sound. i remember growing up in the countryside and to be honest we spent half the time driving around in a car. that's the truth!
