i mean this is mean to be a place where people assess the "bleeding edge" of music and culture right? you've been more on it in terms of following the artists, particular riddims that stand out so something like this regardless of whether i dislike Charlie Sloth or not should be see as like a notable moment u zeemi?

dunno what it is but something about the spread of drill and trap has cause serious outbreak with people over what these sounds/styles should be called, the idea of influence/immitation and whether these things should have their own name or be accpeted as part of the traditional lineage

I did have a flick through that video but none of them are particularly good, Jashii especially is really overrated and boring to me and he's probably the biggest name here. Lifestyle Riddim towards the end there is a classic but at least 2 years old now. Maybe it is a 'moment' of sorts but it's hard to imagine it having much impact. I would definitely watch a 6ixx collective sesh if such a thing existed.
These are better I suppose, but still not really my thing, I prefer the records.

what's the general consensus on Spice? she seems to be on half the tracks I like and i assume she's massive. also interesting in that she's female, is always talking about having sex, pretty explicit and has a way with a hook.

yeah i really like her. romping shop is great, except that there's a straight-up homophobic line right at the start, you can't miss it (as opposed to all the stuff in patois or that's a bit more subtle that i probably miss entirely), and i always hope that no-one hears it when i bike around with it on.
that line 'i can't stop fucking you' i find incredibly expressive, i'm not joking, they really tap into something there, it's better than anything in MoMA

It reminds me of when Odd Future blew up and certain people were aghast at alot of the content of their lyrics which just said to people like me that either they honestly hadn't heard that kind of thing or they purposfuly went out of their way to try and avoid rap with content like that

it's not that i'm taken aback by it exactly. it's just that i like the tune and it's annoying to have it there upfront, because i can't exactly play it when mates are around can i.

well if that's the case don't bother going back to the 90s/2000s stuff that still tends to be the most popular but you're gonna run into alot of songs that you can't play around your mates and its all that upfront.
@shakahislop i'm not saying its right and the music has gotten away from that for a long time now, but this is just what it is

but then again @shakahislop i have to ask you do your mates even understand patwa cause all even now i've come across people one or two of them who live in Britian who say that they have no idea what people are saying
and its a funny thing where you see people enjoying a tune because of the riddim but as far as the lyrics is going on they don't know what's being said but you do and it feels like you're tapped into a hidden frequency
