Most underrated LP/albums ever

I was going to put this one in the post-punk thread, but this is really a forgotten post-anarcho-punk classic - Adrian Sherwood Presents Flux of Pink Indians Vs African Head Charge In a Dub Encounter...this is the sound of one hunt sab too many, burnt out from having to be seen constantly fighting wrongs, when "positivity becomes negativity", a litany of regrets: "I don't feel angry anymore", "grasping for the commitment that I once possessed, remembering past days of positiveness"...but I suppose at least one ex-member of Flux is happy now after all the money Bjork has generated for him..

This came as a real surprise after their previous overload of rage, The Fucking Cunts Treat Us Like Pricks, which according to many is "unlistenable" whilst this is not

I think it sort of flew under the radar at the time, their previous album, Fucking Cunts, alienated a lot of people, especially record shops who got prosecuted under the UK obscene publications for stocking it, probably didn't get much distribution as a result, but it's the one album that came out of the whole anarcho punk scene that I keep coming back to..

yeah, definitely. wish the production was a bit more muscular, it's slightly thin sounding but a cool variation on the Adrian sherwood sound.

every few years i think Two Lone Swordsmen's mid-90's output was/is criminally underrated and play them back into the vaults, where they wait to ensnare again

from the North, Steve Cobby has been a riot at times, it's never dull in Hull and any number of early Fila B lp's up to....

the purpose of which is to gorge on grooves as charming as




It's come up a few times (Weatherall's best work?), Stay Down, so much "space" to it. Addictive

ok here's another criminally underrated lp.

it's not exactly obscure but it gets lumped in with all the tropicalia records and the rest of gilberto gil's stuff.

but it is

ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL

not "quite good" or "worth a listen"

definitely without question the greatest lp to come out of brazil

a nimbler, more intelligent-sounding (listen and you'll see what i mean), more deliciously beautiful record than most top ten classics

it's probably a better record than the beatles "revolver" THAT GOOD.

The drummer is fine but where could they gone if they'd had a Mitch Mitchell level third axis to the triangle, something as loose yet tight as the guitar

YES. both LPs are on an absolute GREATEST EVER level. up there with the talking heads classics. a very good choice.

Not the most incisive review you will ever read I'm afraid but I think I get my point across.

they were dismissed as sonic youth copyists at the time, and that influence is there for sure...and lots of other influences: postpunk, kraut, John Barry, frenchy psych-pop...oh and siiiiighhh

but but...

it works. it just does, it cuts through. they were somehow able to divert and pool all those cooling old flows, let them fester into a thickened new brew.

clipped, biting, not a duffer on it, all its little bruising gestures unerringly sure. so much there, newly inhabited, so bothered and close.

like all those great Yankee bands that saved my ass in the 90s, the noisy expression of TRAPPED energies grown viscous and lustrous.

oh...and Vern from the mighty UNWOUND plays base on it, what more dya want?

nice one @the ig love this album and the melody of lemons one. they're a lot more interesting than sonic youth especially when listening now. much more exciting textures and emotion, a lot more sophisticated composition and noise i think. wouldn't expect to see them on this forum either.

there are albums that are underrated because hardly anyone knows they exist - perhaps those are more like "non-rated", as most don't have an opinion one way or the other

underrated could also apply to an artist that is generally rated, even feted, but puts out something considered by those who love and respect them to be a dud, a disappointment, an inexplicable detour in a largely immaculate urrrrrrrrrrrrv

this album fits that category - I believe it got a one-star review in Downbeat

Yes! I love their "in expression of the inexpressible" lp too. Stormy and very delicate at the same time. It's music that sounds like it's made by grown ups, but not in a shit boring way. Rather it has the complexity and ambiguity and ambivalence that comes with leaving adolescence. You know that the people making this music have really lived. They've made big mistakes and they've really doubted themselves.

Far superior to sonic youth I think, who even when good have a trace of dilletente adolescence to them

I've always felt that was about Donovan's "Cosmic Wheels". It's not obscure, but few of his many greatest hits comps include anything from it. It's got lots of hooks and a glam rock feel in places, plus an all-star backing band: John "Rabbit" Bundrick, Suzi Quatro, Cozy Powell, Chris Spedding, Alan White.

You can listen to it almost as a lost Coil work, on microdots, the kids all bop to its strange groove too which is the toughest dance-floor going
