i haven't heard any of it and i don't have the inclination to seek it out. i do think that dry cleaning track has a great, inventive video.

tbh with any new music i fight two kneejerk instincts:

1) to immediately dismiss it as being irrelevant on the basis of older music
2) to immediately behave like it's uncool and aggressively insult it

this is because:

1a) this is the route to emotional calcification. you just end up bitter, angry and shrivelled.
2b) because i don't REALLY care about being cool - and i think people who use music as a badge to assert their coolness are weebles.

this does get difficult when music gets close to being objectively bad - but then lots of things that i care about or have cared about are objectively shit. just yesterday i was listening to allen ginsberg's blake lp and it's the most ghastly godawful record.

Yeah I think you gotta fight those instincts... but not so hard that you lose discrimination and give too much of a fair shake of a stick to something that is utter rubbish.

Not even about coolness or relevance, it's about using hatred and disappointment as a creative impetus. The artist must always be bored!

For some reason, I'm much more openminded about and receptive to new electronic music. far less so for forms of pop/rock/guitar-based music. Not sure why, but new guitar bands invariably sound derivative and boring to me, while at the same time I can still get excited about variations on Detroit techno, Chicago house, weird electronic stuff, etc.

And it's not that I'm just bored of guitar music, because I still listen to plenty of old post-punk records and other stuff. I just don't seem to find time for new releases.

had no idea about the band "Section 25" who were on factory. from blackpool / poulton le fylde. I'm sure I must've heard them before, but the name never rung a bell. They're fucking brilliant



maybe they haven't got the exposure cos they sound so much like joy division? dunno.

we used to hitchhike round the country to see them (y):)

but they don't sound at all like Joy Division

they do to me, but let's not get into that one. they sound very much in keeping with the whole early factory style. been listening to them all morning, really good.
