@IdleRich - any comments about any (?!!!!) of the tracks I posted for you??????

it has been quite a while now!
Ha you're right... I did start listening and i got interrupted but I got some time now and I can give them proper attention, do you remember what page they were on? I mean I knew you made a load of suggestions but this particular group?

OK I'm gonna get into them.... I feel like I did actually listen to them and then something got in the way of writing the response which - at least in part - defeated the object really.

Unhuman - Faces of Death....
I'm mistaken actually, pretty sure that I didn't listen to this before. It's really cool, love the bendy noises and the way that what at first sounds like a vocal is distorted so much it becomes simply a sound and then (I think) it's used for the beat. And it gets better as it goes with more transphorms or whatever they are. I don't really have the vocabulary to describe it accurately so I'm kinda shooting blind.

Unhuman - Seven Days
Starts off more straighforwardly industrial I guess. It's obviously the kind of thing I like with that pulsing ebm type bassline dropping in and out. I think the previous one stood out more though.

I will recommend both of these to Liza cos she is always looking for new stuff and I think she'll dig plus a) she plays all digital now and b) she actually plays out

Engrave Name On Garment
Really scuzzy from the off. Kinda clanking industrial sound. Some of this stuff would fit equally well or better maybe in that ebm thread - but fuck it, I'm really not one of those people who spends ages arguing about genres, I think loads of things overlap and bleed into each other and a purist set that doesn't recognise that and take advantage of it tends to be boring.

Some of the sound palette reminds me a little of this but dirtier

One thing you gotta be careful of I think is when you listen to too much similar-ish stuff in a row you start losing the ability to differentiate and properly concentrate so you can miss the wood for the trees - so I will take breaks to ensure I review fairly and make sure I don't skate over something that's actually really good.

Spirit Details
All of these so far have been quite maximalist I'd say with loads of noises dropping in and out and fuzz or distortion filling up even the bits which would otherwise be quiet. This one is a little bit more stark though, at least at the start, with a more kinda stripped down framework of beats and bassline - although then it takes advantage of that space to add loads of different bangs and screams and bleeps as the song advances. Also this tune is slower and has more of a soundtrack feel to it almost - soundtrack to a film with a tooled up robot army advancing over a crater covered moon through abandoned war machinery beneath a black sky. Which sounds like a pretty good film actually...

Beau Wanzer - Prison Meals
I've got some stuff by BW, none of it quite gets me although I keep trying cos I keep hearing people say how good he is. I've also heard he's a good dj... this one is a bit heavier and gnarlier - ie better - than the stuff I've got with the crunchy distorted beats and those kinad laser gun acid stabs.

Minimum Syndicat - Phantasm
I'm liking this one... although it's got that dark feel it's not so scuzzy as the last few and so it stands out. Again a slight hint of soundtrack vibe but it's more epic... will be a hands in the air peak-timer for a certain kind of night .

An-I plus Unhuman - Cannibals
I've got a few tunes by An-I, some of them are pretty bonkers. I think I prefer this one though it's a bit harder than what I normally play and even when I take it it often ends up staying in the bag cos I feel it might not work ie it might scare people (this breakdown at about 5.37)

Probably I said it before but An-I is Douglas Lee who also makes music as Lee Douglas

Current 909 - The Lockdown
I love the sounds in this, all that creaking and crackling like knackered old computers in a building which is going to collapse any second. This is a cool tune.

The sound palette (not the way it's arranged) reminds me a lot of this one which II've played out a lot, normally pitched down

There's a Japanese one which is almost the same too... what is it now?

Celldod - Kommer Tilbaka Version
Got a feeling that Liza plays this one maybe... or perhaps just something like it. Where's it from? It's just ok to my ears.... actually maybe that means I need to give them a bit of a rest. More later or tomorrow.

I think I saw them but I'd already started moving away from them. I will do another splurge either in a minute or tomorrow.

What do you think to this one?

pretty cool!
It gets pretty noisy and distorted so that's a win, and I like how they introduce a different kick drum ~50 seconds in which gives it a nice syncopated kick drum pattern.
That's not something I hear a lot - kick drums with different timbres in the same track.

It was from three or four years ago I think, heard it when I was back here then, I picked up this local music mag and they normally hype anything from Oxford and go on about how amazing their band scene is and yet when you check out any of their recommends it's just embarrassing... except that was the only time it wasn't.

This one

Interesting in that the big dumb rock influenced techno stomper and the cerebral chin-stroking Japabese avant-garde thing end up sounding so similar but the forner is better.
