The good IDM thread

sounds like the ultra maximalist record fatboy or chem bros would make if they were actually worth any cop. sounds like the type of record which should be playing in uni bars to give the freshers aneurisms.

Well it could also mean like Portishead and Morcheba, which don't really have anything to do with IDM at all.
hmm you could maybe call portishead intelligent in the brooding, bookish, arts sense rather than the scientific maximalist sense

moving into the end where it def comes close to academic electronic music.

remember getting this album in 2013 and being utterly blown away by it. Like the innards of autechre extracted and made into some kind of slithering ectoplasmic dark ambient.

a lot of that arovane autechre worship from the 00s never managed to get what was so good about AE to begin with (hint: not the twinkling melodies taken in aspic.)

Phoenecia were one of the few to understand the spectral abstract electro subsonic dimension of it all.

Sounds like some of the cuts that Shackleton would go on to make with Skull Disco later in the 00s.

some of this music is quite soulful. not so much childish but childlike. or even more correctly teenage-like. Akin to being reintroduced to the possibilities of what electronics can do, the types of liminal, in between emotions they can convey. Whereas something like epic trance is childish I would argue, always hitting the arpeggiator button.

no not this but the complexity not losing sight of a theme, forward motion made more & more fascinating

do you have the choose your own adventure Team Doyobi album from 2004? It's like the hyperpop of idm. adhd melodies wizzing all over the place with mad hyperactive beats.

It's a classic, and @suspended hasn't heard it.
