How to make cut ups in an online era

just thinking about the effort involved

sometimes people will deposit drugs through my letterbox ( a hole in our front door, I think you Americans do it differently and have some sort of a pole with a box on top outside that any passerby can loot? ) and I'm thinking that the bindle of DMT that someone pushed through my letterbox will take less time and be more effective within 15 minutes than the hours it will take me to build another dreammachine...

I was thinking about this a bit more and was wondering about how we now all have our own "feeds", so to speak.

So one kind of cut up / fold in, would be to regularly doom scroll your friends/family's fb, Ig, etc?

If they let you.

Or like one friend takes two other friends phones and puts them next to one another and scrolls each for 10 mins without looking, it all gets screenshot Ted and the cut up is thus assembled?

Speaking of phones, back in the day (before your number automatically showed who you are) if you or someone you knew had 2 or more way calling/multiple lines and such, did anyone ever used to call and connect two people and/or places together?
Like say two of the same pizza delivery chain (they could get really confused when that happened) or even two competing chains
or like a random person with another random person, or random person with random business
or say a "massage" therapist with someone...
so much hilarity, or at least it was for us
the hard part would be to keep silent while trying to suppress the laughter
so much that would happen would depend on random factors like who picked up first

was curious about trying to get to venue hosting such events but it never came together

musically the Hafler Trio can nail juxtaposition although AM’s editing technique is not something i’m familiar with, put another way he/it can sound like layered cut ups eg Thirsty Fish which is a superb head floss

there’s a series of newish AM interviews online, re Dream Machine, cut ups, Burroughs, Gysin, Academy 23, working with Chris Watson et al, and even with a tendency towards pretentiousness might be worth exploring

I used to sleep to Hafler Trio sometimes. It would often work wonders unless it was like The Mastery of Money where the LOUD, maniacal laughing, that would go on for several minutes at the end, would jar me awake.
It sounded like one of these:

work prolapse post in two parts - similar experiences using postdoc fatigue, a newborn, sleep and dreams as cut ups, fold ins, to subconsciously edit, drift and transcend through sound when time allowed

true, you don’t need a psychotic field of crickets to erupt out of the aural ether but hypnagogic states and sound can be fun to manipulate - new visions emerge

I am looking for a way to more appropriately use what has become known as doom scrolling, but through leaning into it somehow.

It might surprise some of you, but I once built and owned a fully functioning dreammachine

but anyway, dream machines work, within limits... it's hard to maintain posture when your inner vision is a jumble of kaleidoscopic shapes which whirl and reconfigure into film like visions... and all you want to do is lie down and wallow in the imagery, but moving from the light removes you from the alternate reality you had almost been propelled into...

having said that, if I could find the template and blueprints again ( they're in a cupboard ), I'd consider building one again

A friend built one back in the day, but I think he might have used https://www.discogs.com/release/582...ychick-Youth-Present-Brion-Gysins-Dreamachine or the CD version or I'm confusing him with another friend that I definitely remember buying that release.
This was also released about 10 years ago:

it used to be hard, and I presume it still is, to find a turntable that plays at 78 rpm at an affordable price
A lot of the Chinese Hanpin Super OEM turntables on the market for the last 15 years or so will play at 78 rpm.
They've been around long enough that there should be plenty of used ones knocking around.
I have a Numark TTX that I'm just willing to give away, but wrong country/continent and can't mail it for any reasonable cost - built like a fckn tank.

Imprec / Important are selling pre-printed card 'dreammachines' which once cut out and assembled play on a 45 rpm deck

mine arrived in the post last week, it's like a mini- dream machine, not the same height as my original one judging by the size of cardboard tube that I haven't actually opened yet

You could argue that the feeds generated by social media recommendation algorithms are cut-ups, in that they are sequencing content alongside content, in ways which were unintended by the content creators.
doomscroll surrealism feels like a major aesthetic current these days. for example this person's vids:
