That's quite harsh. I thought his previous novel was very good.

I know a recommendation from me counts as its opposite for many on here, so just ignore that I said that if that's the case.

I will do that for sure, just had a sudden thought about getting it sent here, but actually best to wait til I'm back in Portugal cos if it gets delayed and I miss it here will be a real ball-ache. The premise certainly sounds enticing, I'm keen to read it.

Did you ever read Lewis' book, the preamble kinda put me in mind of it

In search of France's superstar philosopher who has mysteriously vanished, Lester Langway, a young, bedraggled freelance reporter for the failing London style bible 'Down N Out!' magazine is sent spiralling into a hallucinogenic detective mystery involving demonic Kantian philosophy, identity politics, the history of Surrealism, secret societies and mind control.

vs

A troubled novelist becomes a troubled detective, searching for a missing woman in a concrete and glass maze of shadows and artificial light. Survival in the underworld combines with existential alienation in a noir thriller in the best traditions of the avant-garde.

Though I can't imagine that the actual books will be very similar as I know you write in totally different styles and come at things from different directions.
