i never skated but just by the looks of it skateboarding is probably the best fun you can have. it has it all. being outside, doing sports, hanging out with your mates, a level of competition, commiting petty crimes, etc. is there an equivalent type of activity for if you're older?

Yeah competition, with yourself and sometimes with others, that’s maybe the best bit besides outdoor exercise. I’m embarrassed to do it but not nearly enough to stop

There are older people who skate. It's like rap where it's a recent enough thing that the first few generations are only now getting old and a fair few of them are still doing it. There are lots of pros in their 30s nowadays too. They just tend to adapt to their age and do lower impact stuff, like this.

@version did you once skate? If not did you just become a Lucas Puig fan from afar? Sorry if I’ve already asked you this

I did. I stopped in my mid 20s because I had no one to skate with anymore and I was more conscious of getting seriously injured, smacking my head or breaking an ankle or whatever. Still have my board in the cupboard.

Other than the actual skating, I definitely miss the hanging out part the most. Heading out early and spending an entire day at some secluded spot when the sun's out. There was an abandoned place where I grew up that had really smooth concrete, ledges and stuff and where nobody would come and kick us out. Bliss.

Climbing seems a decent one to transition to. That's what one of the guys I used to skate with did. You still get that collective thing, hanging out at a spot all day, competing with each other and trying things out, good exercise.

not a bad suggestion at all, it's also something that has gotten really popular recently. it seems to be the thing all millenials do now, to go and boulder. well, my idea was to sit outside all day at a table and drink tea and play backgammon but i should maybe save that for an even later age.

i came across this thread yesterday and was loving the photos and the descriptions. this thing of sitting outside and just being is something i feel is so lacking in western europe and i feel it's the lifestyle i would like to live. here in germany it seems what people do when they are bored is to spy outside the window from their apartments or from their balconies and call the police on you when you did not put your trash in the proper waste bin.

not the finest example of liberation through fun but it had Fun in the title so you roll with it except some cunt put a geometric limit and now there’s less fun, sorry @0bleak

what are your thoughts @tomfun ? are you a habitual dogger?

My thoughts on the Nitzer Ebb song about fun? I am a huge fan of them, but they look and sound a bit like an offshoot of EMF in this particular video. It looks more like fun through gritted teeth.

Whilst i am not a habitual dogger myself, i once inadvertently spent an entire summer as a 9 year old hanging out at a notorious cottaging spot because it was a 10 minute ride away on my bike. I just thought it was a popular spot for friendly men to hang out in the evenings. The council bulldozed it before i could have any early awakenings, sadly.

Well hey now you told me via DMs that you found my post-capitalist schtick deeply inspiring and that you may even abandon Bordiga to follow me. Were those just empty words?

empty words to silence you in contented bliss, yes. It seems it hasn't worked.
