i recall in the 90's lots of indie type bands donned acid house signifiers to jump on the bandwagon, keen to embrace the buzz but incapable of understanding or maybe structurally incompatible with the reality of the sound. generally the result was terrible - the happy mondays for example
i dunno maybe that sort of stylistic counterfeiting doesn't happen in this modern era when you don't need to commit to buying a record without hearing it first on the strength of its cover
