The other reason I thought it would be good dissensus fodder to discuss them is the occult connection. Page is a big crowley collector I think?

And didn't they come up in one of the conspiracy threads?

The main thing I remember is that he bought a house that Crowley owned:

It says here that he had the biggest collection of first editions:

The recently deceased Mike Magee who founded the IT magazine The Register, was also an early member of the Typhonian OTO and, according to his obituary:

"In 1971, he started an occult fanzine called Azoth, and in 1973, in conjunction with David Hall and his then girlfriend Janet Bailey, he started a more ambitious six-monthly magazine called SOTHiS.

This brought him into contact with Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page. Despite his fame, his accountant did not allow Page to have much money, so he approached Magee for a loan to buy an esoteric bookstore. The loan was never repaid.

Let's Talk About Ceps
Apparently while David Bowie - no stranger to the occult himself - was living in Berlin and surviving mainly on a diet of cocaine in the mid-70s he was in permanent mortal terror of Jimmy Page, who was possibly the only major figure in the rock'n'roll business at that time who was less wholesome overall than Bowie was.

what are your favourite LED ZEP tunes
Immigrant Song for me too - probably the only one I like. There's a brilliant, fucked-up cover version of IS by an Aussie band called Slub, with misheard/improved lyrics, but I don't think it's online - female singer keening like a wronged valkyrie.

or stories?
The only ones I know are

  • Kenneth Anger firing off a hex at Jimmy Page for being a tightwad (he missed and hit the singer and drummer instead)
  • One of the kids on Houses Of The Holy being toddler Sam Fox
  • The original 7" of the Irish Republican record Men Behind The Wire by The Barleycorn has the 'ZOSO' symbol scratched into the run-off...may have just been a Led Zep fan at the pressing plant, but guess we could use this to fuel a myth about Jimmy Page funding the Provos?

I've not really got into how they're the BIGGEST BAND IN THE WORLD while they were in their twenties and then they PEAKED and they were either DEAD or whatever by the time they were 30!

imagine peaking in your 20s!

and then it is all downhill!

at least I, WILLIAM KENT, can imagine ascent!

FUCK YOU LED ZEP!

before I die of some liver eruption I should probably mention about the time me and some of my school friends hooked up a reel to reel tape and played stairway to heaven backwards through it and made ourselves hear "SAAAAAATAAAAN" but it was a bit of a stretch, to be honest that back masking shit was just crap, we REALLY had to imagine SATAN when we played stairway backwards, and we were sick little cunts, how fucked were the born again Christian evangelists to hear SATAN? a bunch of sicko fucks is what I say
