Friend of the forum Tim Reaper and 'Champa B' (status re: dissensus unconfirmed) have released this EP of rebore jungle.

Although as I've boringly gone on about on here a lot I feel ambivalent about retro pastiche music I actually think the first 2 tracks on this go (like Craner at the sight of a large-breasted Italian actress) pretty damn hard

Always wonder if I heard this stuff in a set of old jungle tunes, would they stick out to me in any way? Not sonically, they sound absolutely like they come from that era, but would they be ones I'd think "shit i need to look this up"? I guess i'll never know.

Felipe Luciano x Gunplay - CREAM

This came out on 28 december 2024 so I'm slipping it in here.

The Alchemist - Floppy Discs

This beat is very fun. Alchemist is surprisingly good at rapping. I'm assuming he's been hanging out with Roc Marciano a lot.

No the more dignified thing to do rather than enjoy it is to silently grovel on to oneself about how the "future" isn't "rushing in," on the basis of an outdated naive interpretation of dance music, itself not so naively conceived to sell magazines and books

everyone on here says that about tim reaper but to me the production on nu-jungle sounds clinical compared to the originals. you can hear the computer, it has that same HD thing as everything else. you can listen to this then metal then sabrina carpenter and the production all has the HD thing in common. old jungle is blurry in comparison. the percussion equivalent of pitch correction.

Is this what you do?

the first tune on this EP sounds surgically enhanced. old jungle sounds bodged together

I’ve already gone on elsewhere about how I’m not keen on Reaper and a lot of this new bloodless retro jungle, but I don’t think its the computer ruining it for me. The authentic 12-bit Atari guys with analog desks usually make just as boring stuff. Its the ideas that are lacking. Like if Tim had used an S950 and was bad at mixing we wouldn’t feel differently about his tunes I’d hope. That’d be truly regressive

Maybe we're not so different, you and I. I'm not totally against making jungle in 2025 but it would be good if the new producers used more fresh sounds, not the typical jungle sound pack, it feels too reverential/referential to me.

Maybe there is stuff using fresh sounds and I've just not heard it. And I'm gonna look like a wally for the five thousandth time.

I dunno perhaps my melons twisted by the nuum stuff as you say. Actually when I was really into jungle/dnb back in the mid/late 00s I probably would have loved to make exactly the sort of stuff they're making. I felt I'd missed out on jungle and wanted it to come back. Also I often think if I heard a jungle tune made in 2025 and mistook it for something made in 1993 then found out it was made in 2025 I'd feel differently about it, but should I?

It doesn't matter what I think ofc, I'm just airing my feelings/thoughts on a niche forum.

the chat on the discord is an extensive debate about whether it's worth braving public records because tim reaper might be good and because he might make a lot of the crowd leave immediately. everyone is checking with each other. trying to judge if it's worth it

why would he make the crowd leave?
i thought the problem people had with tim reaper was that he too was too consistently mining and referencing old sounds - does he also have some kind of harsh noise wall side that he likes to bust out every now and then?

meaning, i thought people would go knowing what to expect - i guess i'm kinda confused why the crowd would suddenly revolt
