What if one person pays another for their banana using cash? Is that "capitalism"? If you're saying it is, then I don't think that's a useful or meaningful definition of capitalism.

of course not, what is necessary is the dispossession of the producer from the land. people used money in feudal times, obviously.

Yes, and people who have that conviction are invariably the most deluded.

It's not just a conviction. Personally I'd love to be in Brazil shagging my brains out and snorting enough cocaine to give an elephant a heart attack. Well, maybe not as drugs don't really mix well with me anymore, but you get my point.

It's about being grounded in the history of societies and human relationships.

Reminds me of the Cioran thing I posted early on in the thread re: the fanatic, but he also ended up backing the Iron Guard so seems like he wanted to have his cake and eat it. That, or he was just another victim to frameworks.
are you actually going to get to work or do we have to baby sit you through your anxieties?

I'm not being rude, I'm just thinking about whether there is anything more to be said in this thread, because I'm not even sure what your point is anymore.

I should also add that many people babysat me through my anxieties back in the day, so I have had no problem conversing with you.

I'm just discussing this stuff because I find it interesting. I'm not anxiously pacing around thinking about it when I step away from the forum or really being affected by it.

Is it not more metamodern now? A sinking feeling of being untethered and that we're starting to lose our bearings. Paradoxical/nonsensical logic running amok.

Where pomo's sarcasms and ironies once dominated a huge chunk of the cultural landscape, it's almost as if that's come back to haunt us and is being superseded by reality satirizing us. Having fun at our expense. Stare into the void long enough etc

This thread in a nutshell. There's no way out through any of these pursuits. They may be entertaining thought exercises, but there's never going to be a final destination. Keep hacking at it tho...

Pomo's gift was to make a mockery of it all, totally straight faced and serious, and then when you try and get serious about it, it makes a mockery of you. Kind of brilliant really, but also an endless black hole with seemingly no way to get past it.

Baudrillard did actually say this was the point.

Cipher, do not decipher. Work over the illusion. Create illusion to create an event. Make enigmatic what is clear, render unintelligible what is only too intelligible, make the event itself unreadable. Accentuate the false transparency of the world... The absolute rule is to give back more than you were given. Never less, always more. The absolute rule of thought is to give back the world as it was given to us -- unintelligible. And, if possible, to render it a little more unintelligible.
I think the others took it a bit more seriously though. He seemed to live for antagonising people and being the perennial outsider.
