Faces of the 21st Century

Forgive the pontificating, but in combo with your 20th c thread, this makes me think of this phenomenon that's had people talking over the last few years:

It's something I've been observing myself for a long time. Before a certain Canadian psychologist/university professor went totally insane there was a series of lectures of his I saw and a few points stood out. One of them was that when people finally grow up, their faces harden. I'm wondering if that somehow plays into what the above vids are trying to figure out.

yeah that particularly struck me a while ago when people were talking about the whole neo-mullet "safe sleazy" aesthetic - despite recreating the hairstyle the gen z revivalists just tend to have a softer, more childish look than their predecessors. you can tell they spend all their time indoors staring at screens and applying skincare products rather than out in the sun and dirt like the earlier guys - chilling in the pickup truck bed reaching for the six pack or whatever.

6:05 here is a good example:

Weird how it's all about embracing being feeble now. So glad I was reaching for my 6 pack in the dirt back in the good old days. Just feels so good to be rugged

he may be holding a fish but the dude in the op isn't a weathered outdoorsman. you'd imagine he maybe goes outside once every six months and spends the rest of the time playing video games and jacking off. it's such a great pic though, so much going on.

yeah there's a reversal of values accompanying the physical change. people look at these old photos of their ancestors from the 70s and see the ruggedness as a flaw. wow, they look so old, i'm aging way better, they didn't know about skincare at all back then, etc.

i agree there doesn't seem to be that hardening any more. and when you see the east europeans walking round london they look like theyve come from a different century. stubble you could strike a match on. huge neanderthal bone structure. big thick lumpy skulls.

Which only goes to show how feeble minded they have become. They live in a world of ideals and fantasy because they never actually got their hands dirty and drank a beer while wailing on a Stratocaster, cruising down the I95 on a Harley with a buxom babe clinging on to their ripped physique

and i do spend my life in the sun i dont work behind a computer writing emails with lots of exclamation marks
so i think theres some more mysterious reason behind this, some shift in the collective psyche and so on
