the hideousness of contemporary record artwork

In a funny sort of way using a hardware Roland 909 is a little bit steampunk .... nowadays a kid would get all of that in their phone I should imagine.

A lot of the old analogue gear doesn't quite sound the same as a collection of individual "one shots" due to the way the circuitry in old (even drum) machines subtly (unintentionally) modulates the sound during a sequence.
Kind of smart to hold onto any old analogue gear for that reason.
For best use from a sampling perspective, it's better to find samples of loops being played on those machines and modify as needed.

pls do not be mean 2 Si Begg

def not - i love sample packs (especially ones from producers I admire like Si Begg) even though it may not seem since I talk a lot of trash.
Almost everything I do is based on samples, but I usually try to modify them in some way especially if the loops or sounds are a "featured" part of the track.
I've got a track going right now where I've narrowed down about a dozen iterations of a "featured" loop to about 6 versions.

But, those aren't the only hauntology sample packs :)

What I've learned in my internet travels in the last few months is that practically every niche of style and sound has had sample packs produced for it.
Even fckin' sea shanties.
