I don’t understand the ignorajce

surely you know that drugs have been a big part of virtually every kind of popular music
and as far as "zero content, zero musicianship" - you're also a fan of punk, right?
as far as content, all music is content if someone feels something from it - even sabrina carpenter's pop music made from completely unaltered loops from splice - not saying you gotta like it or get it or understand what other people get from it
and the "substance" in dance music isn't really in the lyrics, or the lack thereof - not gonna get into the history of disco though
Also, you might be familiar with the punk "this is a chord, this is a chord, and this is a chord - now form a band" from the punk zine sideburns in 1977.
Well, techno outpunked punk ;)

Well, maybe it’s for the best you don’t hear any Zappa. Despite a whole bunch of his music on this thread.
You couldn’t get much further apart than LR
& FZ. Lou Reed almost selfhandedly created the pretentious ‘Arteest’ persona while embodying the tragically hip.
Zappa, by his own admission considered himself an entertainer (so gosh) but wrote compositions LR couldn’t play on his best day, but he’d look super cool trying.

“LR” was not pretentious…. He was a drug addicted freak who authentic and owned it in his music…when he wasn’t a drug fiend he was just an asshole, but he would be friends with me

I like a lot of Lou’s work. He hated Frank though and wasn’t alone. FZ was a rebuke to the hip merchants that many of that day were. He rarely missed an opportunity to expose them for the posers most were.
I’ve met them both, actually Lou reed more often & he tried very hard.
Zappa was a HS dropout who through sheer hard work & creativity (forget about the 60 + albums he released in his lifetime) could put together a band of musicians that had the discipline and focus unmatched by anyone else save the U.S, Marine Corps. Band.
