existential crisis, feeling like I'm in a creative prison

sounds very aphex to my ears, but that's NOT on purpose
all sounds originally molded from the original Turkish sounds...
as for no context, I'll tell you what, when you have a history of being a drummer and drum programnmer that spontaneously makes people dance, a dj that got people dancing, and a dancer with every single woman's eyes on you as you're tearing up the dancefloor (other people's words, not mine), you can tell me my music has no context, right?

but, really, I don't get the supposed "no context" thing or that I'm existing in a "dead end" unless I'm making music that is part of some currently fashionable scene that in itself is very fleeting and ephemeral, and/or trying to write pop or rock hits

also, what I said about the Sub Urban Guzheng track:
"The idea initially came to me when I was thinking about what a modern update to 23 Skidoo's Urban Gamelan album from 1984 might sound like, but if it was taken in a different direction. Firstly, use different instruments (guzhengs instead of gamelan/drums/bass/guitar, etc.), and secondly, try to derive all sounds from just guzhengs (either played conventionally or unconventionally). This is why the project is named Sub Urban Guzheng - a nod to the album that inspired it, but created in a suburban environment, with added sub bass (the sub bass sounds here are also processed sounds initially generated by the sounds of guzhengs)."

I mean, I dunno, does that sound like it exists without context especially when using words like "modern update" in reference to something else.

a comment I saw when I woke up this morning
"this is totally mind-blowing, now entering all of my playlists and lives immediately playing it everywhere"

everything has a context. even the most egghead academic electronic music. Luka is just being a bourgeois simpleton far too addled on pints and dmt, nothing new. I mean I love the guy but he just cannot escape the medieval magical mindset. If he converted to Islam he would replace his bad habits with 9 cups of daily coffee, and submit to the hyper-rationalistic jitters!

I have a sneaking suspicion that generally anything that doesn't have vocals (whether sung or rapped) or part of some kind of uk dance nuum is thought to have no context.

I also don't see why this can't be said about an electronic musician shaping timbres and textures: "it is a function of poetry to increase the sum of the world’s available reality."

In general, I would advise not to take any of luka's pontifications to heart. He has this very london (regionally and culturally specific) sense of biting satire, which has never translated well to north Americans, right from the PiL days and Jah Wobble bullying that drummer out of their first itteration. There's a reason why I respond to him with mock contempt, not because I harbour such feelings, but it's the only way to respond in kind. If you don't, the barbs tend to wound, as opposed to bouncing off the surface. It's a whole theatrical act which I don't think can ever translate to continental Europe, let alone America. @blissblogger may be able to recommend some books on this topic, top (Girondist) intercontinental bloke that he is.
