Unbelievable how bad that penman book is

he is from Stockport,
same as 10cc,
he used to write for the NME

10 cc - Dreadlock holiday - the biggest band from penman's home town

edit: I was confused, 10 cc are from Paul Morley's hometown / Paul Morley is from stockport / I have no idea where penman is from from!

"we used racism - you could do that then; there's a distinct lack of racist humour in chart music now"; Graham Gouldman on the 10cc song he wouldn’t write today...

@version: fixed it for you

I just realised I'm mixing Ian Penman up with Paul Morley but so what

I once got told off by a Manchester club legend for using the word "pretentious" but it is a word that applies to these two

in my imaginary film adaptation of Olga Tokarczuk's "The Empusium: A Health Resort Horror Story" this is the theme as the "Polish" [0] hero ascends to the flatland of the Silesian "health resort" which has a history of persecution of witches

Popol Vuh - Brüder des schattens - Söhne des lichts

it will be a drawn out 'nothing happens" but atmospheric opening scene as the vehicle winds it way into the mist

[0] one of the the major themes of the novel is "misogynistic views on the topic of women" but Olga also pontificates at length on "Nationality" and what it means to be classed as "Polski' ( or any other nationality, this is a novel about who you are at the core, what you consist of at an essential level )

I can not overstate enough on how this* is a major work of fiction which has profoundly affected me

* this is Olga Tokarczuk's "The Empusium: A Health Resort Horror Story, a major piece of feminist folk horror fiction which pisses ALL OVER the UPTIGHT PROTESTANT Xtian nonsense of wicker man

Great reading list

which Olga Tokarczuk reflects back at us while Amazon reviewers complain "nothing happens in The Empusium: A Health Resort Horror Story except boring men pontificate on misogynistic views regarding the topic of women and their place in the world while they imbibe psychedelic liquor in after dinner debates"

the brilliance of this novel blinds my mind's eye

BW is a biography of the German artist Otto Dix

TMWKTM is a non fiction about Spook Richard Case Nagel who walked into a bank just prior to JFK’s assassination, pulled a pistol shot one round into the ceiling and then sat down on the floor waiting to be arrested.
