I just dont know
wasnt there this time, but last time i thought it was incredible for dmz but not so good for skream... there was a big big lack of definition in the mid-range, which is not necessarily a bad thing at all, but a lot of skream tunes sounded too muddy

but it made dmz tunes sound like i'd never heard them before (but in a very good way)

i heard they were using some new mid / top drivers, rather than the old one.

with plugs in, it sounded incredible. ruffage by loefah was especially clean and clear.
i had plugs in for about an hour but i felt that aswell as cutting out unwanted tops it was denying me the midrange i wanted to hear so i took them out!

for me ear plugs took an edge off it. it was anice and heavy system but wasn't the life changing experience i was hoping for. i also thought there was something decidedly lacklustre about most of the sets and audience reactions. maybe its just me - possibly a little jaded.

still, i'm loving the new benga 4x4 techno riot stomper which seems to be going down well.

yeah i know what u mean...
it was more just 'another decent system' rather than 'ohh iration i just soiled my trousers through pure bass pressure'. i've felt more bass at fwd stood in corner, probably becasue its such a small room or something. Still had a great time tho

Remarch absolutely smacked it in the little room. did loefah ever play in there btw does anyone know?

fwd is still the best venue ive experienced for dubstep, no doubt about it. iration was different and definately weightier, but i prefer plastic people, its more intimate and compressed, and the system is very heavy but it also has incredible clarity and frequency response, which i prefer

agree with you

was thinking to myself whether it was my mood to blame, or the music itself

it's not like i've been going to fwd every week either, and i haven't downloaded any mixes for weeks...

hmmmm....will see what fwd on the 15th and then jan dmz is like.

presuming something like jan 6th - but no idea if there is one in january and if there is, whether it's on that date.

next dmz session on iration in leeds is feb 17th

i got the dmz fun bus, which was indeed fun. i managed to sleep all the way back as well. so it was really painless.

i think i need a dubstep holiday to be honest ram - will not consume any over the 2 weeks i have off at xmas and hopefully come back refreshed for the rollercoaster journey which dubstep will no doubtedly be in 2007.

totally mate. wasn't anything like as good a vibe as theres been in the past there.

decided to blame it on the fact i'd smoked too much, esp after reading the hype on dsf, but its reassuring to hear a few others weren't overly buzzed of it. felt fairly gutted about the whole deal and have been trying to work out why, but all i can come up with is a standard list of "too many wobble tracks", "too many pill monkeys" kind of whines.

Full respect to everyone involved for putting it on, i don't mean to sound ungrateful just the previous leeds dmz's have been among the best club experiences i've had and this one didn't live up to those.

to the foam plugwearers - spend 12 quid on some musicians plugs :) It definitely wasn't as loud in there as it sometimes is but with good plugs in, it sounded a lot crisper than it sometimes does - benga and skreams mid rangey stuff sounded pretty clear on it.

It was a really good night but I had two issues - firstly, it was really fucking fast. From mystikz till youngsta, whenever I could see the turntables they were between +6 and 8, normally closer to 8. When Benga's more dancefloor stuff gets played at that tempo (so basically all of hatcha and benga's set), to me it starts to sound more like aggy breakbeat than dubstep. Less of a major problem but it would've been nice to see some DJs repping different sounds. Same old problem of only about 7 or 8 producers being played. DMZ in london's dealt with it by booking people like pinch, cyrus, distance, vex'd and heny g but there wasn't anyone like that there on saturday.

This seems like a well negative post, but I still had a really great night. It's just that it was great for the same reasons DMZ is always great, and I've written enough about that in the past year.

Man, you people have had too much of a good thing!

DMZ north was my first night of dubstep over a big system n I loved it... if it's usually even better than that then I look forward to checking it out when it rolls back around early next year.

My ears were still ringing Sunday night, even with musicians earplugs, but then that might come with a night of live music either side of dubstep on Iration.

Definitely.. living in leeds during term time used to mean I'd have a few months off at a time, but now I'm surrounded by it up here too. No escape :)

yeah, it's a good place to be innit. had a year away from leeds last year and came back to a whole slew of dubstep happening. nice.

I think the last DMZ Leeds proved how the 'largeness' and 'deepness' of a night isn't in proportion to the size of the soundsystem. It was only Mystikz and Youngsta I was feeling, but never got into it at all really. Missed the back room, to be honest.

As for wobble-step, which I am not a fan of at all...there's a world of difference between what's created in the basslines in - for example - 28g and Chest Boxing.
