heard the new jeezy single - its basically a rip off of TIs what you know. it basically confirms that jeezy is essentially everything wrong with modern hip hop in one indefensible nutshell of a man.

Yaaaay! Jeezy bashing *blauuww! take that Doughboy!*

Surprised myself and really feeling Game's 'One Blood' remix. Aside from the audacity of having 20plus people on a remix to advertise your album release ( KILLER marketing move ), I heard the original on the radio the other day and thought 'Not bad, better than I'd thought' but the remix makes it great, love the idea that Game just loved the song's loop so much he wanted it to go on for 14 mins, it works as well.
I care not one jot about Game, but I think he may just do Ok with this new Cd, be interesting to see opening figures now. He's kinda getting a grudging respect from me, which is interesting cos I always thought he was a chancer and an idiot before.

Oh and that joint with Marsha Floetry and Nas on it is a killer as well.

You gotta love an emcee who talks shit about someone, calls him up to squash it, then makes more diss tracks about them while dedicating an album to/name dropping someone (30x) THAT DOESN'T EVEN APPEAR ON THE ALBUM!!!! I'd don't have the foggiest isea how his album'll do. One.

That Doctors Advocate track is up on his myspace PD, it's a heartfelt love letter to Dre apologising for his (Game's) actions, backed with an ending from Busta. I dunno, give it a listen - and I like that Nas and Marhsa track ALOT, but to me it felt contrived, almost like the whole thing is just set up to make money.
Doctor's Advocate? Spin Doctor's Advocate more like.

both tunes are produced by DJ toomp which probably explains why the beats sound so similar.

I know... heard the entire album a week ago and right now I'm replaying the songs that I actually really liked ("Why You Wanna Hate The Game" being my favorite...Just Blaze KILLED IT). I agree it's just more hype for the project.

On another note, I wasn't even aware that Lady Sovereign's album was released last Tuesday (I didn't see one print or TV ad or hear about it anywhere). I thought it'd come out YESTERDAY...nope, LAST TUESDAY...Here are the numbers:

-- 44 LADY SOVEREIGN DEF JAM/IDJMG 17,318 -

OUCH! There are several INDIE albums that outperformed this project. This has been the grandest flop of Jay-Z's Def Jam presidency by far. I expected AT LEAST between 75,000-100,000....and that is a failure as well. One,

True.

I think the album will do well .

Jay wouldn't piss on Jim Jones if he were on fire in front of him in a bathroom and he had a bladder full of champagne...he doesn't respect Jomo enough lyrically to even acknowledge his existance. One.

Have you heard his Weathermen track with Lil Wayne though? Against all odds, and I never even thought of him, that track is some seeeeeeeeeeeeeeerious shit, as is Juvenile's new one, even if he has jacked Eminem's flow. Someone had to though, cos it ain't like Em's got it at the moment ;)

Both on hiphopdx

It's easily one of the albums of the year for me, and "Sunshine" is easily among the top five tracks of the year for me. Some reviewer (I think it was the Stylus one) moaned about the beats being to weak, but I disagree with that: if anything it's refreshing to hear a mainstream hip-hop avoiding the harder-faster-stronger trap for once, and instead opt for beats that better match the lyrics.

Here's a post from September 26th, 2006 regarding Lupe. His legendary Fahrenheit I:15 series and his Lupe The Jedi and Touch The Sky mixtapes were legendary. He was regarded as the "Next Great One" and his album leaked more than 6 months before it's release, hurting his sales:

His album is a damn classic already...besides if he moves around 200,000 that means that people will ACTUALLY STILL BUY QUALITY HIP HOP ALBUMS. I'm afraid that it will take for Nas and Jay Z's albums to drop before any hip hop artist moves any considerable units again...I bet Lupe opens at between 100,000-150,000 units....I hope he REALLY does 200,000-250,000....but I HIGHLY DOUBT THAT WILL HAPPEN. Go Lupe! One.
Here are the unofficial sales numbers for the week!

-- 8 LUPE FIASCO ATLANTIC/ATL G 85,959 --
LUPE FIASCO'S FOOD & LIQUOR

This is considered a flop if you factor in his year long buzz, his Fahrenheit 1:15 mixtape series and the excellent Lupe The Jedi and Touch The Sky mixtape tracks. The publicity and exposure that the videos for "Kick, Push" and "I Gotcha" got him (not to mention the fact he was the "Next Great Hope" and hip hop's newer poster child for creativity and lyricism). I do agree with many people that TOO MANY of his best songs never made the album (in THIS case, I believe that the first leaked version of Food & Liquor HURT his sales badly). Odder was the fact that Fergie only moved 150,000+ units and was in the #3 spot. Lupe will not reach Gold...Fergie will make Gold by her 3rd single, guaranteed. This has been an odd year, indeed. Pharrell hasn't even passed 300,000 units yet! Back to the cynicsm! LOL. Well, here's Lupe reaction to his own sales numbers 15 minutes ago from Okayplayer.com...he took the news a lot better than I did! :

I really like it.

Lyrically Lupe is brilliant and the beats are pretty good as well.
I recommend it to my friends.

It def grows on me after repeated listens which is a good sign.
