What's ironic is that, irrespective of the unknowable fact of whether the 'global temperature' is 1.7 degrees 'hotter' than it was 123 years ago, the social phenomenon of Global Warming is the secularised, terrestrialised, and collectivised version of hell: because hell is no longer deemed available in the afterlife it's prospect is refashioned for this life (although it's ceaseless deferral places it effectively in the same relation) and we are enjoined to suffer numerous privations in order to avoid it - with the added bonus being that any one of us can be sent to hell by any other person's actions and so we're thereby encouraged to pry into other people's conduct and restrict or force them to do this or that.
