Hi, does anyone know any good places to go out here? (this is the St Petersburg in Russia, just in case there's a town with the same name in Canada or something). Any decent markets? Good late-night clubs? Mad bars? Alternative, underground or just historic and interesting - any insider knowledge would be much appreciated, ta!

fish fabrique is a weird little bar where they have gigs and stuff.

pyatnitsa - do dnb/garage nights. flouro graffitti on the wall, studenty.young crowd. was a mad crush to get in last time. got to dig around the courtyards a bit to find it.

run by dva samaleti, a ska band, its boho grungey and pretty cool. cant take drinks on the dancefloor tho! theres a chill out room with mattresses on the floor.
a bar i went to just before i left SPB is tsinik which was well good, intelligentsia shabby chic, just round the corner from moskovskii station, ulitsa goncharnaya

mama - well i love this place. might be closed down, oh ive already talked about it. only evidence of the high life of SPB clubbing, jetting in from moscow, but a mix of trendy, crusty, and was the centre of the Russian UKG scene! look out for Dj Dinastia if you dig that, i tried to go on a date ith her but she stood me up!

bascialyl i have too much to say. oh, its an expat fav but "the idiot" on. river moika, further down than srt basils, is still nice, veggie food, good noodles, books to read and free vodka with every drink, even tea.
wicked georgian cafe - dirtstyle, good khachapuri (cheesy bread) called something beginning with "l", think its just off fontanka on belinskogo ulitsa.
tea at the astoria is v nice! think its 20 dollars for tea and cake, ridiculous, but a harpist plasy whislt you drink from v fine china.
look out for awesome teremok blini (pancake) stands. in SPB they do em with cranberries.
essentially, if you speak russian, http://spb.afisha.ru is the bomb. its time out essentially.

oh shit one more hting, or two, seeing yr things about markets, you need to go to Vladimirskaya market, nr metro dostoevskaya, come out at the yellow church, (try and catch the time for bell ringing - russian belle ringing is the best sound ever made), go in the market. then come out and find blini domilk round the other side of the church, on kolokonaya. lovely blini restaurant, a million things to choose from, and an unpasteurised beer.
oh another record shop is on Malaya Sadovaya, in the Extra shop. clothes and records.
