Or you get fools like me, who say it like we really see and feel it, (right or wrong), leaving ourselves open to comment that does attenuate our perception (which is vital) and hope that we can make a few decent connections ...... or like The Loft, in Oxford, which now has a roster of 500+ independent musicians who perform there (the hold gigs 7/7 at present) the vast majority who came to the venue via the net, removing the Agents and Bookers who have a pretty strong grip on the live music scene in the UK ..... or like those who send out lots of usefull/interesting info to people who might not have picked it up ... the web is about making connections, and sharing info, (at least thats the up side) and only time will tell just how effective those connections will be in helping people in the Affluent West realise that we (the affluent, and those who provide us with resources, the 'poor') are one big family, though not a happy one at this time.
True, Myspace is owned by Murdoch, and true he will probably commecialise it as soon as he has his projected numbers online, and yes it is another way of the authorities listening, deissembling etc., but really they should know what we the peacefull dissenters are saying, as we will have to say it to them to their faces and actually put it to them at some stage so we might as well get used to the idea and strengthen our position in preparation (on the net and elsewhere!) and although the rush to join in is apace with the rush to control the net, yet some connections, once made, will prove to be resliient and useful..... one has to wait and see.
