Dubstep re-rub of Bill Withers' classic acoustic soul tune. This is an idea that's been obsessing me for the last few months.

Let me know what you think.

I think it works well. I like the original song a lot and think it lends itself to this kind of treatment well... would make a refreshing change in a largely instrumental set or something, eh.

Edit: And (I'm assuming this was intentional) I love the way the samples are roughly cut, often sound like they start or end a little bit early which avoids things being too smooth sounding.

Oh! Breakup Choon! Good thing I'm not breaking up with anyone.

This is great. I'm not a huge fan of the original but Ir eckon this takes the best parts and makes them really work with the melacholia of the track.

Edit:a actually, I've now started to make a 'Melantronica' playlist in iTunes with this and Michael's remix he posted the other day. Further suggestions would be appreciated.

Hope you don't mind, Paul, but I played this out last night. :D Used it to get from an eclectic hodgepodge of things into a little edits-syle dnb set. Lovely tune! I had a little trouble EQing it and thought that maybe the instrumental track, especially the glitchy percussion parts, could be a bit louder. The bass was certainly loud enough, the lowest note almost seemed louder than the other bass notes. But after further mixdowns I think that it will sound quite nice over a system.

Excellent, nice one Tate, feel free to play any of my stuff! And let me know if you need this stuff on CD or in AIFF via you send it. Thank you for your feedback on the mixdown, I'll bear that in mind.

ha! this is great! love the original, love the refux, love the wobble underneath it!

I agree about the mixdown w.r.t the drum levels, but on my headphones the bass is definitely not overpowering.

Also, although the slightly-rough-hewnness of of the samples is cool, there are a few clicks here and there you might wanna get rid of by fading or moving to zero-crossings... tho that's just me being anal.

Yeah I know, trying to make the words intelligible, too many clicks... before I fiddle with that stuff I'm gonna take it over a mate's "proper" studio and have a listen...
